Cyclists

There is another very dangerous cycle lane just up from MTU. For cars needing to turn left onto Model Farm road they have to cross over the cycle lane. Complete cognitive overload for the car driver concentrating on the busy junction ahead. Worse for anyone who wouldn’t be aware whereby they would barely register that moving into the left lane is hazardous.

I would imagine the cyclist has the right of way considering it’s their lane. Very dodgy layout imo.

E-bikes and e-scooters need to be kept to the road; no footpaths and no cycle lanes - they are, in effect, motorised/propelled vehicles.
As someone who’s recently (about 6 months ago) “upgraded” to an e-bike from my Dawes manufactured bicycle, maybe it’s habit, but I still cycle in the cycle lanes. Taking up road space, even on an e-bike, when there’s a perfectly good cycle lane just seems wrong.

Was driving up past Carroll’s Cove in South Kirry recently. They’ve a good cycle lane on the left. I was in motorised traffic and there were two cyclists on our left. Approaching a Yield sign at the and of their cycle lane the two of them kept peddling furiously despite there being a number of cars travelling in the lane they were supposed to yield to.

They didn’t even look - just kept on peddling as though it was their god given right to emerge out into traffic and the traffic needed to take evasive action.

C*nts like them give cyclists a bad name.

One should always make allowance for the old and the frail who upgrade to an e-bike but lads and lassies lamping it at 30/40 kmph in a cycle lane shouldn't be on.

E-bikes are supposed to be limited to pedal-assist with a max speed of 25kph afaik.

Any c*nt on an e-bike doing more than that speed (and frequently without peddling) is on an illegally adapted bike and it should be confiscated if taken on the road
