Of course I stop for farmers. But if it’s some fella parked at the side of the road asking me to stop I won’t because I’d be of no use to him.

I've been wondering if there is any other developed country that allows men to stop traffic on a public road just to throw their balls around the place!

Yes, there's a similar sport in Germany and the netherlands.

It's thought to be over 300 years old. It's something that should be protected, it's one of those bits of cultural heritage that once lost would be unlikely to be brought back.

I would generally consider that protecting that sort of heritage is more important than inconveniencing drivers for a few minutes.

A farmer with animals. Easy recognisable, they would be walking with tha animals and have a big stick.

Reminds me of the time the Glanmire bypass road was opened to great fanfare, and within a couple of days of it, they closed it for a Sars long-puc competition on a Stephen's Day I think

We occasionally did things a bit differently over here to what the regimented Germans would have deemed appropriate
