Corn Ui Mhuiri

Here is a list of recent male pupil enrolment numbers in the traditional football secondary schools in Cork who have been competitive at Corn Uí Mhuirí:

Current Corn Uí Mhuirí schools:

- Rochestown: 730 boys
- PA Mallow: 568 boys
- Skibbereen: 469 boys
- CC Ballincollig: 684 boys
- Clon CC: 605
- HH Bandon: 399 boys

Previous Corn Uí Mhuirí schools:

- DLS Macroom: 409 boys
- Chríost Rí: 502 boys
- CSN: 715 boys
- Mitchelstown: 410 boys

Previous Corn Uí Mhuirí schools with changes to the school's status:

- GC North Mon: 368 boys (split with English campus)
- Colmans Fermoy: 676 boys (Boarding CLOSED)
- Ballyvourney: 108 boys (Boarding CLOSED)
- Coláiste Iognaid Rís: 456 boys (changed to a Co-Ed school)
- Farrenferris: CLOSED
- Carrignavar: 210 boys (boarding CLOSED)

So as Hallbopping said, the dynamics and demographics of many of the above schools have changed.

There is still enough there, with the rise of some schools to improve results at Corn Uí Mhuirí level. Kerry schools seem to be getting it right. You'd love to know what they are doing in these schools.

A lot of it comes down to resources and focus. Rising affluence has put more kids in Pres and Christians, both investing heavily in GAA. Meanwhile, parents care more about academics than a school’s football reputation, so talent isn’t following the old pipelines.

Teachers make all the difference. Back in Christ Rí, people like Mick Evans, Ed O’Riordan, and Aidan Moynihan ensured the Gaelic Games ethos thrived. That commitment isn’t everywhere today.

Cork City’s diversity is growing, but the GAA hasn’t sold itself to non-natives, leaving urban schools weaker. Put it together, and it’s clear why Kerry flies while we’ve fallen behind.
Mick Evans was a spoofer. Can’t comment on Riordan and Moynihan as they were after my time. Br Colm was the biggest driver of football in CCRi. He was a force of nature. Of course, the school was working hand in glove with Nemo as well. A brilliant dynamic and you also had some great lads from the Barrs, Michaels and a good few country lads.

The Old Pres and Christians chestnut again. FFS how many private schools in Kerry. Call out the HORSESHIT.
We are just a complete organisational SHITSHOW at schools Football and Hurling in this county.

Numbers don't matter too much, the most successful team in recent years is Dingle who have 6 wins since 2012 including 2 All-Irelands and they've only 200 boys.
Their school success led directly to All-Ireland success at club level this year.

While schools are a very important part of player development, the GAA clubs in a school's hinterland have a huge role to play in creating the foundations. We will use Dingle GAA and An Gaeltacht GAA as an example. Both clubs obviously put a huge amount of effort into player development, creating a strong club-school connection, subsequently supplemented by school success with Pobalscoil Corcha Dhuibne, subsequently leading to adult club success for Dingle and An Gaeltacht GAA clubs.

Great game of football in Croke Park in the Hogan Cup Final.

Coláiste Mhuire Mullingar 3-11 Tralee CBS 1-16 FT.

Football played with the shackles off. Very entertaining. Will Scahill for Mullingar is one to watch. Super footballer.

Kerry's winning streak in All Ireland finals has come to an end but they are still on a crest of a wave. The other Tralee school, Mercy Mounthawk were in the final 2 years ago and semi final last year. Some going in one town.

Tralee and Douglas have a similar population. 4 good clubs in the Tralee I think. The difference is frightening. There's also basketball, soccer and even rugby in Tralee before the excuses roll in.
