Corn Ui Mhuiri

Hes from Ibane AFAIK, I wouldn't be too familiar with him but from what I've seen he looks decent.

Disappointing for these lads to bow out, conditions no doubt played a part. Haulie OSullivan is a notoriously defensive manager, and is a far cry from his Clon namesake Haulie O'Neill when it comes to footballing philosophy. Haulie O'Neill has done a lot of work with the school teams in recent years, and many attribute Ibane's success to the individual coaching he has given some of their players.
Were Clonmel playing on dry pitch?

No hiding from it that was as poor a performance from a team at that level you would ever see or any level , the conditions were as bad for both teams .
Michael O Sullivan has a very poor record look at the Cork Minors of 2024 ...i dont think hes cut out for coaching /Managing.
Agreed on Haulie OSullivan. I spoke to someone this morning who said Haulie ONeill is away on holidays this week so was unable to attend the game. I thought "Bingo!" that explains a lot about the tactical approach taken.

Disappointing from the school's point of view as I'm sure they had their eyes on a sustained run at it this year - they have a good team with some decent players from the smaller clubs and also a couple of the big boys like Mounthawk bowed out early.

He's Olans younger brother, he's very talented

Went as we feared. Tralee 1-15 Roco 0-7. Fair play to Roco for getting to the SF.

Clonmel HS in the final. Clon CC must be kicking themselves.

Why? Clon were totally outplayed by a far better drilled & more attacking Clonmel team. Clonmel could be in for a tough final given that Roco beat them earlier in the competition & how comfortably the Green won today

Good result for Clonmel...Kerry team had 6 or 7 county minors from last year.

I did a similar graph for the Harty Cup and with the Corn Uí Mhuirí Final on last weekend (Tralee CBS beating Clonmel HS in the final), I said I would look back at the last 50 years of this competition. It is scary how bad we've neglected schools football and hurling. I understand there is a lot of variables with schools for sure but somehow we've gone back a lot, yet Kerry schools are flying it.

Corn Uí Mhuirí Winners 12 year breakdown:

2011-2025
Kerry 12
Cork 0

1999-2010
Kerry 8
Cork 4

1987-1998
Cork 7
Kerry 3
Clare 2

1975-1986
Cork 9
Kerry 3

A lot of it comes down to resources and focus. Rising affluence has put more kids in Pres and Christians, both investing heavily in GAA. Meanwhile, parents care more about academics than a school’s football reputation, so talent isn’t following the old pipelines.

Teachers make all the difference. Back in Christ Rí, people like Mick Evans, Ed O’Riordan, and Aidan Moynihan ensured the Gaelic Games ethos thrived. That commitment isn’t everywhere today.

Cork City’s diversity is growing, but the GAA hasn’t sold itself to non-natives, leaving urban schools weaker. Put it together, and it’s clear why Kerry flies while we’ve fallen behind.

It's hard to see a way back to Cork schools being competitive, especially when GAA people send their children to rugby schools.
