Cork's Unreliable Bus Service

Over 12 million passenger journeys on Cork city buses in 2017 would suggest quite a few people use it in fact. A further 10%+ increase in 2018 also.

That is correct, but as I said the main operational reason of BE is for the good of their own staff not the public.

It's nothing like utilities. I can change phone providers not a bother but there won't be multiple bus service providers that I could choose from.

When I want to get a cab I can call sun cabs, or taxi co-op, or use my-taxi or multiple other options. If one of them goes on strike I still have options.

All I’m suggesting is that I have options if I want to get a bus. It’s interesting that back in the bad old days when RTÉ had a Broadcasting monopoly they regularly went on strike.

Now that they have a minority share of a large and competitive market they never go on strike.

Makes zero sense. Are you suggesting multiple operators should be running on the same routes because that's what it sounds like. There is no practicality or viability in having Bus Eireann, Go Ahead and say Transdev all running buses on the same route from Carrigaline to Cork for example.
