I thought it might be worthwhile starting a thread about what's on around Cork for Christmas.
I have heard a few people over the last few days saying that they didn't know that the parade was on on Friday night until they saw the pictures of it afterwards, so thought a place to share that kind of stuff might be useful.
I was at Winterlee this afternoon. The ice rink is really well set up. There is a small area for kids, where they can use penguin yokes to help them, and then a long rectangular rink circuit. One way only, to reduce the chances of collisions. As a skating experience, the kids absolutely loved it. There were a couple of issues with it as I saw it though.
Firstly, they charge extra for the penguins ( a fiver each!) which i think is kinda crappy, given that a family of 4 ticket was already €65 for an hour. Secondly, the set up for collecting skates is a bit all over the shop and when it gets busier in December it will be mayhem if they don't tighten it up a bit. Now, it's early days so maybe they will work that out in the coming weekends.
The food stall places are nice, though the coffee stall seems to test the limits of how long it could possibly take to make a cup of coffee! Again, there may just be teething problems though. There are a couple of amusement things for kids outside, but you would get out the gap for a tenner a child even if you let them go on a few. The Christmas craft market wasn't open.
It's a nice spot to walk around, though it feels a bit weird to be there not for a match. There are lots of places to take photos with kids and the likes.
