Cork u20 Hurling 2024

Be that as it may it clearly isn't the view held by the current management, who I think we can all agree appear to be running a much more competent set-up.

No player has a divine right to start, but if you have a management style that leads to the greatest hurler Cork have had in many years to publicly slate you there's questions to be asked. Especially when that player has gone on to clearly prove you wrong.
This is just your own opinion. That’s all it is.

Current management who I know very well, have won absolutely nothing, yet. If Cork are beaten by Clare then it puts a very different sheen on things altogether.

Corks greatest hurler in many years is up for debate

Any player that “slates” an inter county selector drops a notch in my book. Anyone that’s involved with club or county comes across as many poor coaches and selectors as good ones.

I’m a big Hoogie fan and I hope he starts the next day and gets the medal he deserves after a super career. However, lately his personal performances aren’t setting the world on fire and a lessor light playing the same way would be under pressure from the subs bench.

You won't have to do much hoping, he will obviously start, and his personal performances are why Cork's season didn't finish in May. That's not opinion, that's fact. Everyone has to hold their hands up and say they were wrong sometimes, and certain selectors were wrong about Horgan.

Listen, Furlongs time with the senior set up obviously didn't work out. The reaction you see here and elsewhere to his appointment is proof of that. I hope it goes better with the u20s.

Unpopular opinion but I think those two selectors appointments in 2022 was the biggest mistake under the Kingston era.
I'd say you could be right there to be fair.

Kingston always seemed a thoroughly decent man. He doesn't seem to be the type to fall out with players etc.

I spoke to a couple of players who I'd know reasonably well soon after the Galway game and while we didn't discuss hurling, I sensed they were almost relieved the year was over in some ways. (while obviously gutted they lost)

I believe things were not right behind the scenes in that last year of Kingston's term.

Coaches have to remember that players have built up friendships and a bond with each other. If you come in with an axe to grind or treat a player unfairly then it can very easily have a knock on effect.

I'd hope that Furlong took some learnings from his time at senior level. He did a good job with talented minor and UCC teams.

I'm a bit out of the loop here, but can someone give a bit more detail as to why there is such scepticism about Furlong? His managerial career seems pretty decent in the face of it. Apart from anything else, he was over arguably the most impressive Cork intercounty team of the last two decades. Are there specific reasons to doubt his ability to get the most out of next year's U20s?

Donal Og in as U20 coach. RnB to spontaneously combust in five, four, three...

I'm a bit surprised at that choice myself. Big opportunity for him to rehabilitate himself after 2020. For the first time in a few years, Cork will be outsiders - Tipp and Clare will be the clear favourites in Munster.
