Cork U20 hurlers 2026

Great win, dogged performance in terrible conditions.

Very encouraging that some of the better performers were also some of the younger players on the team.

I do read criticism of Furlong and Donal Og here from some posters but they have the players giving 110% for them and are digging out results in spite of the team possibly not being as strong overall as some recent under 20 teams...imo.

Correct NC. Credit where it is due. For years we had lovely ballers who were invariably accused of being ‘soft’ without the stomach for a battle. This team have spades of character and fight in them. That’s all any of us can ever ask of a Cork hurling team. Go out and give every last ounce you have for the jersey.

Agreed.

Seriously impressive second half by Cork which reeked of good coaching to me!

The work-rate, discipline and game plan in the closing moments of that game was something that was worked on.

Great result, and allowing for the circumstances (testing conditions, very hard-working and defensively solid opposition) it was a decent performance as well. Apart from the workrate, I was very impressed by the discipline and focus on the last quarter - no soft frees conceded, and v good use of the ball. The subs also made a strong contribution. Craig O'Sullivan's point was an example of all of the above. A good ball was played in, the defender was out in front but O'Sullivan picked his pocket, and then didn't snatch at the shot but took a second to steady himself before slotting it.

I think management deserve a fair bit of credit as well. I wasn't there so I could be wrong about this, but it seemed to me that after Waterford's whirlwind start to the second half (where they were working the ball into their FF line to pick off points), the Cork hb line dropped deeper to cover their FB line, with the midfield and hfs working like demons to cover the space in front of them. This opened space for Finn O'Brien to use his pace, with Johnny Murphy gettting room to win ball one-on-one as well. That was exactly the right approach given the wind. In contrast, Waterford will be disappointed that they didn't make better use of the wind after those first few minutes of the second half.

I'm sure the management team would have got it in the neck if we'd wilted when going 3 behind with 10-11 minutes remaining so they too must share the credit for a gutsy, battling display to pull a win out down in Dungarvan.
I'm sure there are plenty more who wish to praise the coaching team - after all they were lambasted for allegedly not high fiving a player who was withdrawn early v Limerick. Same player put in a MOTM performance last pm.

Tipp leading 1-3 to 0-4 after 22 mins. First ten minutes were dire stuff, standard has improved since then but shooting is still v wayward. Tipp goal was nicely worked. Rodgers had a shot saved at the other end.
