Cork U20 hurlers 2026

And I fail to see the bitching about the minors - there’s always a bigger picture

You’re trying to protect a talented minor
A young lad if he’s good enough could be on his school teams ( hurling & football) his club teams ( hurling and football) on cork teams - minor/ u/20s
He’s going to be flogged - training / playing matches, pulled in all directions with every manager saying they’ll mind him
But only concerned about their own team
He’ll be going non stop with no break, he’ll be playing with injuries / niggles -
In the modern game the player will be burned iut by time he’s 20/21

In addition to that if a minor is playing ‘adult’ competitions - his team - 20 club lads or amagamated teams etc - are all
Held up waiting for for those adult teams to go out of completion so they can start their own competitions - minor games wouldnt start till after club championships finishes - hardly fair on all his own club mates

Sorry for long winded rant but that’s the reason minors are excluded - we explored it fully at our club the time they were changing the rules

Re the juniors an exception was made because the junior clubs looked for it - small
Clubs felt they’d struggle to field if they couldn’t play their minors

So it protects talented young lads,
Allows minor / 20s completions to run off and doesn’t cripple small junior clubs
I think it’s a good compromise for Cork anyway -

The majority don't seem to have much time for Kevin O'Donovan. Personally I've never met or dealt with him. But I've found him excellent, to me he comes across like someone who puts a bit of thought into things.
If he does nothing else then changing the format of the club championship has been his best contribution, the championship we have now is unbelievable. Lads have their dates and venues in January and can plan their lives accordingly.
I can't speak for the rest of your post, but the bit about restructuring the club championships is spot on.

Correct. From my own clubs perspective also he’s been very open and engaging in how best the board can help clubs like ours. I think other smaller clubs in the northside would share this experience.

it was disgraceful, if you trust a young lad to come into the game then you have to back him, they didnt and that says more about them than the young fella

These boyos should never be left near a Cork team again
What have you ever done for cork hurling besides be a keyboard warrior??? Have you ever managed a cork team or club team??? If so were they successful??? They made a mistake on the night, which is allowed happen, you have been waiting for them to lose so you attack from you keyboard, the management have done more for cork than you will ever do!!!

I’ve met him and dealt with him several times and I would put him charge of an automatic yard scrapper.
However as you said, he did get the club championship right bar the naming. The Stopped clock phrase comes to mind

What precisely is the board ‘clueless’ about? What issues in particular considering their remit is Gaelic games in cork and supporting clubs and members what have they done to deserve being referred to as ‘clueless’ precisely
allowing some under 18s play at adult level but stopping some of the better ones from playing senior

targeting the underage amalgamations and threatening their future

picking inter county managers and coaches that are regressive to put it mildly

Shall i go on or is that clueless enough for ya?

I was fully supportive of Kevin at the start but we are falling back into the old ways with the tail wagging the dog instead of the other way around

Changing the formation of the county championships have been very successful but giving Kevin credit for the split season is a huge stretch. That was done nationally

are you actually condoning what they done to Craig O Sullivan? A mistake? seriously?

oh great we are playing the what have you done for your club and county card? Alot more than you think but that is non of your business anyway

no one is doubting the time they have put in but alot on here are doubting their management and coaching skills so lets thank them for their time and efforts and move them on so we can get back to competing at underage level again

By the way we had a Cork guy on tv about a decade ago pontificating about a lack of high standards in Cork GAA. Where are his high standards now?
