Cork U20 Footballers 2025

Young Hurley and McCarthy are two tough tight defenders....a well coached team ......nice to beat Kerry anytime
best of luck to the lads against Waterford
If a Cork v Kerry final it will be in Tralee.
Yes I would not fear them either we stood up tonight and can again

Kerry’s wide count was a result of both poor shooting and genuinely good defending. We underestimate ourselves so often, if this was Kerry winning on the back of our shooting it would be “our forwards are shite” and Kerry backs are great. Kennedy was compared to Clifford in the papers by a few former Kerry greats during National league, but you’d have to say Clifford would never have allowed this so that in itself is satisfying. We are building something good now as a result of cleary’s reign and let’s hope it continues.

Let’s hope sheedy’s injury is just a precaution. Isn’t it great to be talking about 20s impacting the seniors again like 2007.

I just watched the game. It's obviously a much different watch at home and knowing the result.

Cork did tackle well and even when we fouled, it wasn't cheap frees. The kerry player was stopped dead. I suppose they earned their frees the hard way which definitely impacts a team.

Kerry were a bit wild with their shooting, not all of it because of Cork pressure either tbf. They will watch it back and focus on poor execution rather then good Cork defending for a few of them.

Cork did a lot of things very well. Defending was good and limiting the ball into Kennedy and scrambled well to stop 1v1 when he did get it. We held the Kerry players up, got a hand in and delayed long enough to get bodies around the Kerry man is possession. That's impressive stuff.

Our attacking play in the second half was good too. Whe we recycled the ball around the arc and 45m lines, we put the ball to chest 90% of the time and that gives you an extra second on the ball. You'd see Cork at senior level even over the years where simple hp and kp bounce and everything is slow. Tonight it was sharp and slick. To do this without their best player in Sheedy is very positive.

One other thing is Cork players are clearly being encouraged to play the game in a positive manner. Players are willing to try the forward kick pass, try the 2 point effort from range...a few went wild tonight but 2 great efforts flew over and won the game. This is very positive to see. Players need to feel free to make mistakes for the good stuff to happen.

I wasn't as enthusiastic about our kickouts as some. A big boot with the breeze but a bit aimless I thought. Very much 50/50. Something to work on.

I'd expect Kerry to improve and get a bit slicker, based on nothing except its Kerry and that's what usually happens but Cork have loads of room for improvement too, arguably more.

More game time into Coakley and O Neill is a positive. Mullane looks like a fella confident he can kick scores too.

Kennedy is a good target man and skilful for his size but comparing him or anyone to Clifford at that age is ludicrous.

Well deserved win for Cork last night. It was a poor quality game but the structure of the competition and the weather played a part in that. Still, both sides would expect more of themselves I'm sure in front of the posts especially.
Kerry were appallingly bad I thought & I hate to say it but there was a touch of arrogance about the way some of the players strolled about at times but Cork tore into them, didn't allow any easy shots by and large and competed well around the middle.

I was shocked Clare lost to Waterford. But once Cork get over Waterford and if Kerry can beat Clare in Tralee then there will be a rematch of last night which you'd hope, could be a better quality spectacle. I'm hearing conflicting reports on where the final will be which may ne a crucial factor.
