Cork U-20 Hurlers 2025

The result against Clare was disappointing but this was because Cork were the better team over the hour(I felt) but some poor finishing and some poor defending in the very last minutes cost the game.

However, from a long term perspective I saw nothing other than another group of young lads well trained and managed on the night. Certainly there are a few that may well progress to senior and this year has done nothing to stunt their development in my opinion.

The under 20 team in 2024 was very strong and probably underperformed a little.
Not as much was expected from the 2025 group and they have matched and possibly exceeded expectations a little.
My feeling is that 2026 should be strong.

I have seen seen lots of criticism of both Donal Og and Noel Furlong but I know nothing of what happened between players and management so I can't comment.

That shit show was the making of PR and this team. It forced him into making changes v Clare. If we'd lost against Limerick down the pairc, he'd have cleared his desk. Some turnaround since. Fine margins.
It was strange that they went from clearly having the wrong team against Waterford to going straight to the team that went to the All Ireland.
Sometimes a team comes together over the course of a few games but here it happened from one game to the next, more or less.

Well they also lost to Clare the following game so it wasn’t an instant transformation.

There is a contrarian view out there alright.
Not my opinion but..
Which is along the lines of take the good games against a well below par Limerick out of it then last year was actually disappointing. That the hype has masked the reality that we are very inconsistent as individuals and as a team. That we should have won the AI last year in a below standard year, That we underperformed big time in the final too, 10 of the starting 15 had really poor games.
That the positive reviews of the year actually shows how much of a low were on..

Thats why I think the league was so important to us this year in building some positive momentum. We did great.

They lost to Clare by a point and nearly won it at the very end.
My memory is that TOM was down injured but Patrick Collins continued to puck the ball out and we conceded scores in that little while which changed the game.
If I recall correctly Patrick Horgan came back down the pitch to tell him to stop the play.
