Cork Senior Football Championship 2013

No complaints today, we were outgunned by a better team on the day. There will always be ifs and buts in a game that was close for long periods, however I felt we had to work much harder for our scores than Crokes and Crokes were very comfortable on the ball, also five of their starting forwards I believe scored from play. For the record, Sean Dineen and Dermot Hurley mastered their opponents at midfield today imo.It is easy to find fault if one looks for it but this is a great Castlehaven team and I predict that within the next few years we will be capable of making the step up to what is required to win another munster and then who knows.

I wouldn't be worrying about the quality of Cork club football. Crokes had a pretty embarrassing run through Kerry with the beatings they were giving out. Haven on the other hand had nothing like that in Cork. We may not have a single team like the Nemo of old, Crokes or Cross, but we have pretty remarkable strength in depth in our club game.

Have should continue to get strong in the coming years, and I think they have an extended run in them yet.

What do you mean IF Haven are the best side in Cork? they obviously are as they have won the last 2 countys. As for today you watched the game on TV and that only tells half the story if your looking for inter county players Cahalane was awesome again today. You are saying Crokes were shocking but the fact is they won every club game in Kerry by 15 points or more, so were does that leave Kerry football. Also St Brigits won the AI club and where are Rosscommon as an inter county team , by your logic they should be great.Haven have 3 inter county players, surely the county is big enough to find some more. And by the way all the Havens main men are young and whats coming up in their underage is some serious, serious talent.I would be reckoning they will get better and better over the next 10 years.

Good post

What we are seeing with the all Ireland club now is that it takes 3 or 4 years to build up a team to win it.

You'll get the odd crowd like st gall's where things will line up but it wouldn't be much of an exaggeration to say AI club is one of hardest if not the hardest prize to win in entire gaa.

Congrats to your club on another wonderful year

So because a team are dominating the Kerry championship we don't need to worry about the standard of the Cork equivalent?! Explain that to me in a bit more detail.
Fact is, the Senior championship has been largely poor for the last 2 years. At least this year the final had a bit of quality about it for a half anyway, last years final was appalling...not Haven's fault, they have been the best team for definite over that period and this year took their game to a new level in fairness. Still a bit off AI club level, but the graph is upward.
Anyone who thinks the Senior championship in Cork was good this year or last is having a laugh IMO..saw lots of games and apart from the odd display of quality from Haven, maybe Ross this year against the Barrs in 1st half, it has largely been well down on previous years. Easy to see why when big teams in hugely populated football areas like Duhallow, Ballincollig, Douglas, Clon etc are either performing poorly or inconsistently. There is a serious lack of high quality coaches aswell I think, a problem not exclusive to Cork of course.

My point is that Crokes are no further ahead of Cork clubs than they are ahead of clubs in Kerry. The same way there was no real difference between club football in the Counties when Nemo were walking both the Cork and Munster championships.

Long story but the word arrogance and insular comes to mind. If every club could pull players in from where they should be playing like Haven do...it would be a different story...Think Cahalane/Collins/Nolan and Barrs/Douglas/Valley Rvs.
Great club tho all those players are nearly bavk living where there father came from . Lack of investment in rural Ireland comes to mind . Big problem in cork is the populated areas producing little
