Cork Senior Football 2023

No joke my man, Lowney is the only one that could be argued isn’t in the best 15 right now as he has never played senior intercounty but undoubtedly has the physical ability for it so is worth a shot IMHO.

Dan Dineen would be a worthy replacement though, as would the oft maligned John O’R.
You badly need to come off the clon bandwagon fox

No chance, his ship has sailed, not suited to intercounty at the top level, doesn’t have the discipline, work rate, or the speed needed to beat better defenders.

Better off investing game time in the likes of Corbett, Cronin, David Buckley.
Not 100% sure but management have approached him and probably coming back in after country final

Cork need forwards with penetration that can score from play, Mark Collins doesn't fit that bill and his ship has definitely sailed. For me David Lowney and Sean White don't cut the mustard also in this regard, there's no problem playing Lowney or White if you wish to play a defensive containment game then they will do a job like many others but that won't win Cork titles. Luke Connolly is a scoring forward with vision and can kick well from the hand and off the ground, if management want him tracking guys from the 40 back then he doesn't fit the bill. He is also similar to Stephen Sherlock, previous managements went with Connolly the current management went with Sherlock, toss of a coin stuff. His inclusion doesn't get in the way of the development of Corbett, Cronin or Buckley.

I would much prefer Eoin McSweeney, Conor O'Callaghan and Cathal O'Mahony in the Cork team than the guys mentioned above which you selected. McSweeney can kick points from distance is a good tough footballer considering Cork didn't go with him at underage. The Cork management keep replacing him with about 20 minutes on the clock which is a bad habit, this notion that he runs out of steam isn't believed in Knocknagree. It was done a couple of times when Eoin returned from injury this year but the Cork management milked it big time. Cathal O'Mahony is a class player and befits what Pat Spillane said about him on TV. We saw him score for fun v Clare in the league in Ennis last year and v Kerry in this years championship game in Pairc Ui Rinn.

Dan Dineen missed out in inter-county development from his minor days and has gone back too much to be a mainstay with Cork. Powter and Dineen were both brilliant minors but Dineen left the Cork scene for his own reasons and didn't develop into a senior inter-county player.

Mark White is worthy of his place and so is a fully fit Liam O'Donovan but has he recovered and is White available?

As I already stated the emphasis has to be on penetration and scoring which will come with good foot passing and movement, loads of players behind the ball and playing short passes from side to side will take Cork nowhere fast.

Rory Maguires brother Cathal well worth a punt imo

You need pace to penetrate, Lowney and White have bags of it.

Connolly is not a team player, brilliant at times, usually against poorer club defenders, not so much against a better defender. If the Barrs put Sam Ryan on him, he’ll do well to get more than 1 score from play. He’s a waste of time at this point in time as he is utterly incapable of improvent/change.

He wouldn’t get near any top 8 team. Can you see Luke Connolly in the Armagh/Tyrone/Mayo/Galway team? Let alone Kerry/Dublin? He’d be laughed out of the dressing room, wouldn’t last a week.

  1. Mark white
  2. Kevin OD

  9. K OHanlon
  10. B Hayes
  11. Mark Collins

Put that team out and see where it takes us. A damn sight further than we’ve been in the last 10 years I’d wager.

Gives us a mix a everything:
- Top class kickout
- physical full back line
- attacking half back line
- seriously athletic middle 8
- creativity from Collins and corbett
- scoring power from Hurley and Sherlock
- 5 Clon men, Joe Grimes unlucky not to make it 6.
Forgetting Cathail O'Mahoney perhaps? The most lethal forward in the county right now. Let's stick with Brian Hurley till he's 50 sure, because he's from West Cork.🙄

"Cathal O'Mahony the most lethal forward in the county right now" you clearly didn't watch him a couple of weeks ago against Kilshannig. He got marked out the game by an average club player. He cant be the answer to Cork's problems

Strange to be honest that nobody's mentioning John Cooper in their teams. I thought he had a very good year last year - didn't look at all out of place against top teams. Brings all he as to the table, consistently makes good decisions with and without the ball, including penetrating runs off the ball at the right time. A team player with a good head on his shoulders, and given his path to that level there could be a fair bit more in him too.

Of course there are a lot of good players competing for places, but Cooper is definitely one of them.
