Cork Schoolboys League: Win At All Costs

Completely normal in Dublin, shur Home Farm, Kevin’s, Shels, Rovers etc are all assembled teams by that age. Playing them Is a poisoned chalice!

One of my youngfellas buddies joined his 3rd team last September for the start of the U13 season! His dad is mad for it, if he plays at a decent level eventually I will eat my hat as I just dont see that top level player there, he is benefitting far too much at the moment due to his size/physicality against kids that haven't developed yet but who am I to know?!

Yeah - big clubs in Dublin are trawling the place from when kids first start playing at 6/7 and will be quite persistent in targetting parents of any player they think may be in top 10% of any group.
As for your son's friend - he would have been approached by City or Ramblers by now if they thought he was good enough to join their academy.

At u13, they're travelling to Dublin, Athlone etc to play league matches. By u14, they're putting up profile pics of them!!

The very top prospects (probably 2%-3%) will have been looked at by scouts of big UK teams albeit can't officially move until 17-18.

We are in Dublin, he's in the Bohs set up - they played City last weekend actually

I hadn't realised peanut was the City head of academy!

Ah fair enough - I assumed he was in CSL. He must be somewhat decent so. Big Dublin clubs known for hoovering up any prospects at very young age but all but very best discareded by age 11 or 12.

Many many years ago, there was a regular problem where country teams especially, would play ringers "to make up the numbers" against the underage city rugby teams. I remember our U14 team at the time played Fermoy and one of their players had a full beard ! Now fair enough he could have been an early developer but he was clearly physically developed, and was a danger to some of our lads who were just out of U12. One of the things I'm proud of, was to get a resolution passed in South Munster to bring in id cards (it was early days of digital cameras, so that made it possible), in an effort to stop ringers and protect kids.

Fair play to you - there is a version of that now for soccer where all players have an online profile with a photograph and the team you are registered for so managers can check if they feel a [layer has been brought in for the game

I had to laugh at a scenario caused by this in an U13 cup match my youngfellas team lost before christmas.. his manager was salty and couldn't accept that they were beaten on the day so he goes to the ref at the end and asks that he run a check on 3 of their players. The other manager is called in and when he realises what's up he says that he would also like 3 checked in that case so the ref asked him which ones. He hadn't any issue so hadn't picked anyone out so you could see him looking around the pitch and he says 'the 2 big fellas there... and the fella with the hairy legs' :lol!: :lol!:

I had similar experiences during my involvement in a CSL team. On a couple of occasions we knew beyond doubt that the opposition had one or more over-age players. Enquiring from people with several years more experience than I had, I was told that objecting would be a pointless exercise, because the league wouldn't take any action against any of the "bigger" clubs.
A now-adult member of one such club would tell of the year their under-14 team won the under-13 league. I didn't share his "sense of humour".

I coach an u-13 girls team and its much nicer all round. Less coaches thinking they are the next, er, Carrick - mostly just dads and mums making sure their daughters have fun. Standard is good in the Premier division but the coaches are still pretty sound.

Thanks for the replies. It's heartening to know the arsehole coaches are in the minority.
In a way I want this season to end ASAP just to get relegated, it's the best thing that could happen going forward.
However, I've come to the conclusion that next season in Div 10 there will still be the teams strengthening their teams.
And I agree that the CSL, and most clubs, don't care about the lower divisions. It's just an easy cash cow for them.
Development? Me hole!
I see the fielding of ineligible players (mainly older ones) as "soft" bullying. The whole "child welfare" thing is being thrown out the window.
The ones I feel really sorry for are those that play no other team sport. If they drop soccer, that's it. My son can fall back on hurling, and he does a lot of swimming.

Is this accessible to someone like me? If it was I'd definitely use it to ensure the opponents are eligible. I'm not trying to get an edge, just a fair game for the boys.
