Heard similar story at start of season (u15), they lost a few players to City and Cobh..
Lead coach, and his son went to another club. So he basically disbanded the team because he wanted his son to go elsewhere.!!!

Completely normal in Dublin, shur Home Farm, Kevin’s, Shels, Rovers etc are all assembled teams by that age. Playing them Is a poisoned chalice!
One of my youngfellas buddies joined his 3rd team last September for the start of the U13 season! His dad is mad for it, if he plays at a decent level eventually I will eat my hat as I just dont see that top level player there, he is benefitting far too much at the moment due to his size/physicality against kids that haven't developed yet but who am I to know?!

We are in Dublin, he's in the Bohs set up - they played City last weekend actuallyYeah - big clubs in Dublin are trawling the place from when kids first start playing at 6/7 and will be quite persistent in targetting parents of any player they think may be in top 10% of any group.
As for your son's friend - he would have been approached by City or Ramblers by now if they thought he was good enough to join their academy.
At u13, they're travelling to Dublin, Athlone etc to play league matches. By u14, they're putting up profile pics of them!!

The very top prospects (probably 2%-3%) will have been looked at by scouts of big UK teams albeit can't officially move until 17-18.

I hadn't realised peanut was the City head of academy!
Fair play to you - there is a version of that now for soccer where all players have an online profile with a photograph and the team you are registered for so managers can check if they feel a [layer has been brought in for the gameMany many years ago, there was a regular problem where country teams especially, would play ringers "to make up the numbers" against the underage city rugby teams. I remember our U14 team at the time played Fermoy and one of their players had a full beard ! Now fair enough he could have been an early developer but he was clearly physically developed, and was a danger to some of our lads who were just out of U12. One of the things I'm proud of, was to get a resolution passed in South Munster to bring in id cards (it was early days of digital cameras, so that made it possible), in an effort to stop ringers and protect kids.

Is this accessible to someone like me? If it was I'd definitely use it to ensure the opponents are eligible. I'm not trying to get an edge, just a fair game for the boys.Fair play to you - there is a version of that now for soccer where all players have an online profile with a photograph and the team you are registered for so managers can check if they feel a [layer has been brought in for the game
I had to laugh at a scenario caused by this in an U13 cup match my youngfellas team lost before christmas.. his manager was salty and couldn't accept that they were beaten on the day so he goes to the ref at the end and asks that he run a check on 3 of their players. The other manager is called in and when he realises what's up he says that he would also like 3 checked in that case so the ref asked him which ones. He hadn't any issue so hadn't picked anyone out so you could see him looking around the pitch and he says 'the 2 big fellas there... and the fella with the hairy legs'![]()
