Cork Minor Hurling 2024

Based on footage circulating the Grenagh player striking the man on the ground with his hurley should be in serious trouble. No place for that in the game.
Mad in the video you can hear women in the crowd cheering on the Grenagh players belting a fella on the ground but get right upset when the lad in orange comes in and teaches them some manners.

That player should get a lengthy ban. Na Piarsaigh should be thrown out of the competition. And a court case on the way for that Ballinhassig parent who volunteered to umpire. Easier said than done, but the referee should alway try bring at least 2 umpires with him. Tough job on his own last night I'm guessing.

I'm just after seeing the videos of the Grenagh v Nemo minor game. Disgraceful scenes. A couple of players from both sides guilty of assaulting opposition players with their hurley. Mentors doing their best to separate it. Parents getting stuck other in each in the stand then.
Knowing that referee he would have done his best to get independent umpires
he is very good at bringing officials with him usually
Not always possible though as in a lot of cases the independent umpires are other referees and there was a lot of matches on the night
The choice then is to either let the match go ahead with help from the clubs like in this case or defer the match
Danged if you do danged if you don't

Barrs and Newtown won last night in Premier 2.Barrs just about hung on despite leading by 8 points after 15 minutes.Nothing worth reporting other than the pitch was like a road making it almost impossible to scoop up the sliotar. Should be a great double header in PUR i hope.

I agree. It is very hard for a referee to get paid 50 Euro and expect to find and transport four umpires (and sometimes feed them) for every championship game they ref. Regardless of who was umpiring, independent or not, that Na Piarsaigh player should not have struck that person.

Also, I think a lot of the problem with brawls in these underage games are parents roaring and bawling up in the stand or on the bank. I've been to a couple of underage finals this year and the abuse towards the ref was much more obvious than in adult club games. Abuse from the bank from parents can hype up their children playing to possibly strike out in the heat of the moment. A "silent sideline" needs to be brought in for U12 and U14 and you'd be hoping by the time U16 and U18 comes, those parents would be out of the habit of shouting and roaring at their son and daughter's games.

It's geared towards winter hurling. There's a ton of sand on it so it's always going to be a disaster in the summer, especially with the weather we got this week.

A good win but an expected one for Sars in the Premier 1 U-16 final last night. Glen Rovers could reverse the result in the Premier 1 Minor final next week.

Blackrock defeated Douglas by 15 points in the Premier 2 U-16 Final which is a nice double for them as they already had defeated Eire Og in the League final. They have been well over every team in this grade and should be at least competitive if they're playing Premier 1 Minor in 2025.

Two disappointing games tbh. P2 game was an annihilation and the Glen never got going in the P1 final. Needed some fire in their belly to overcome a strong Sars outfit but it never materialised and even when they brought it back to 3 after the peno they never looked like pushing on. Without MT Brosnan they would've been well beaten, he was the best player on view by a distance.
Fancy them in the Minor alright though.

I saw the team sheets online. Some very prominent Blackrock surnames on their team. While its a not a guarantee of anything obviously, I was surprised they were down P2. The scoreline suggests they shouldn't have been.

Looking forward to the minor finals.

You never want to put pressure on a youngfella but MT Brosnan looks an incredibly exciting prospect.
