Cork Minor Hurlers 2026

Coaching in Cork is based on work rate and also gaining possession associated with work rate only before skills and craft which ultimately restricts gaining possession and the proper use of it, this was again evident today and more evident with the U-20's over the last 2 years. No point in 3/4 defenders chasing down a key opposing forward if another of their forwards is totally unmarked to score a goal from the likely pass, also skills like winning aerial ball is first phase possession without all the work rate. No point in a lot of talk about player development but not adhering to the right issues regarding their development.

The goalkeeper should have been told at ht not to go short at all. His short puck outs were floaty,Tipp were waiting for it and we saw what happened. Too much messing about with short handpassing and running between the 65s in the second half. We starved a threatening ff line of the ball and forced them to come out which made it easy for Tipp. Tipp way more direct and slicker in possession. Their hb line dominated our lads in the second half.
you do realise the goalkeeper is only following instructions from the line?

We won the first game 😮
so what? To anyone with knowledge of this group Bobby was clearly one of our better players and he proved it afterwards

Sam McCarthy, Alfie Hennessy, Sean O Riordan, Ryan Cagney are others that were played sparingly through the round robin, all were key members of the team today

So what? You’ve no idea why he didn’t start, only having a cut at management as usual

I was watching a couple of the Cork players closely and could see a few small things straight away that would speed up their hurling with a bit of focus and practice.
spot on, you’d have to wonder does there be any individual coaching going on at all?

Do inform me why he didnt start so? 😁

Listen if you think its wrong to be critical of management when they make obvious mistakes you are watching the wrong game, this is elite level hurling, not go games

What makes you say that? I haven't coached at anything remotely like that level, but I would have assumed that the keeper would be given a fair amount of leeway in terms of individual puck-outs (obviously within the overall structure the team would have practiced). I certainly think that's the approach which should be taken at minor, since v shortly after that keepers will routinely be given that responsibility.

Limerick have started v hot indeed. Super workrate which we've seen in previous matches, they're a v physical team and they have Galway rattled a bit.
