Cork Minor Hurlers 2025

Either you misheard him or he hasn't a clue. The Cork U20 panel isn't anywhere close to being finalised.
It doesn't have to be finalised by now for any player to be contacted though, surely Furlong has made phone calls or spoke to new panel players by now.

Regarding players from Premier 1 v Premier 2 I don't think it matters on individuals making the step-up, Cork minor managements don't see it like that anyway. Conor O'Donoghue made the minor panel in 2024 but how much game time did he get, Cian Stack was involved too but only made extended panel like James Murray. Sars Finn O'Connor has stood out at Premier 1 all the way up but couldn't make any panel. Likewise this year Adam Dunlea stood out for Sars at Premier 1 but was only sub for Cork minors whereas Jack Counihan of Watergrasshill and Sean Coughlan of Passage started for Cork minors.

I believe our underage managements are weak and a reflection of Rebel Og which filters up to senior.

Good to see recency bias is strong in here.

Every Cork management team will pick their strongest team possible at that time. End of.

Young lads between 15 and 19 mature at hugely different rates. Some 15 year olds, might have physically matured fully, while another 15 year old is 5 years away from it. For any U18 now, their minor panel was selected 20 months ago.
The lads being named here, could have grown 6 inches, put on 3 stone, became much faster in that time.
The same players being bigged up here, might not even make their own club senior team next year, so while you might be able to say John Meyler got it wrong last year as player x and y are now playing Cork 20s and senior for Barrs, you have to remember that everybody develops different.

I'm sure every club has someone that has been wronged by various Cork minor and u20 management teams in the past.

Whilst I agree with you on how players grow, gain weight and speed up. Last year the minor football panel was fluid, open to every one up to last minute of selection not just based on Rebel Og squads like the hurling managements seem to do and when I say seem to do I 'm open to correction.

When one allows for teenagers growing etc. it is a reason in itself why management should keep the panel open rather than the opposite. If Keith Ricken is doing it regarding footballers of the same age why aren't John Meyler, Fergal McCormack and Donal Mulcahy doing the same.

If you are referring to 'regency bias' regarding the players I mentioned then I inform you that none of those players are based in my region

The last line of your post is correct but that is what we all should not want to see and is based on my criticism of underage managements over Cork teams as well as Rebel Og.

The issue with fluidity in county squads is the undue pressure it puts on players, maybe that's what people want from these children. You could have a lad training all year, travelling 3-4 times a week to Cork, their parent finishing work early to get to to Cork for a gym session every week, then 2 weeks before championship they are dropped for a lad who played well in a school game? Or a young lad has a niggle or is sick, and feels they have to train or else they get dropped. Or a lad dropped because the soccer season is finished and a good lad is now available. Awful pressure and situations to put on children.
Pick the panel February, ride it out for the 4 months after that. Let the panel be the panel. If a lad isn't good enough to make the 36 man panel in February, he isn't going to pass out 20 of them in the next 2 or 3 months.
And if he is good enough, then he will make it at U20 level and we can all give out about the minor manager here.
But fluid panels in season are not nice for those involved.
