Cork Minor Hurlers 2025

Spain is a future star
I haven’t seen a lad that young strike a ball so well since Tony Kelly. He drills it some distance effortlessly. There’s something classy with right handed hurlers striking naturally off their left hand side. Coleman, Pairic Mahony, Gillane.

Heavin the no2 is a great bit of stuff. Shortest and lightest frame on the field but goes 100% at every ball, every tackle. Quietened a serious player in Shanahan… brilliant moment when both of them attacked a ball at full speed late on, Heavin’s touch was superb & then Shanahan robbed it in the air. A great battle between the two.

I thought Cork were comfortably better, in all honesty. I'd say we had more wides than Waterford?
They showed fierce grit alright.
Well done to all involved.
Cork were by far the better team. The long break threw us a bit. Cork backs were unreal. They gave enough ball into forwards to win 2 matches but accuracy was off tonight. Spain brought Waterford back into it with individual brilliance

Please god this minor team doesn’t contain the same type of characters and trouble makers. Cork hurling could do without em going forward, and would have been far better with them in the past, thank you.

FFS - trouble makers? The kind of guys who eventually broke the Frankeen stranglehold on Cork. Greats like Brian Corcoran having his mileage queried and having to piss in the corner of a dressing room? Cork County Board top table needed radical changing and it wasn't going to happen at a delegate's meeting on a Tuesday night.

Crap like "I'm the Cork manager and I say we're bringing him on" "I'm the Secretary of Cork County Board and unless I sign the slip for the ref you can't bring anyone on without my say-so".

F**k that!

Delighted for the youngsters. Winning trophies gives confidence, and knowing you can do it in tight games. That can be the difference between winning and losing the next time in a tight game. Here's hoping this batch of players win the full set. Pal of mine's youngster was on the team and he's been involved in hurling all his life. Delighted for him

I was kidding FGS!!

Cork far more fluent and have a really nice connection between the likes of Brosnan, Walsh, Deane, O’Sullivan. Waterford had more wides I thought and a clear goal chance in the first half poorly executed.

There’s 3 teams in the mix here - looks like cork and Kk are rank 1 & 2 but Waterford could trouble one of them still in a semi final. That jack power lad is a serious player also, great paw. Cork handled him well in both games but he’s a match winner as well as Spain. The injury to Coffey definitely disrupted the cork momentum, he’s a big loss also, really good hurler.

Galway seem handy as well. I haven't seen them but they only lost by four at Nowlan Park having played a man down the last twenty minutes.

Cork definitely more fluent than Waterford, and have more potential match winners. In the round-robin game O'Sullivan was quiet from play but Deane excelled, last night Waterford handled Deane well but O'Sullivan scored five from play and could have had more. Waterford shot a fair number of wides in both matches, but also don't seem as able to move the ball quickly to create clear shooting chances in good positions. To be fair, Cork defended well as a team last night, really good work from the forwards and midfielders to turn over possession.

One thing Cork need to work on is their fielding. Sam Ring caught a great ball for his goal, but before that they were struggling to win high balls into the forwards. That could be a real problem for a team that can upset their preferred delivery from the hbs and midfield into space in front of the FF line. And I'd like to see the Cork defenders go for the catch more often - there's nothing wrong with getting the ball to ground and winning the break on occasion, but they rely on it a bit too much imo.

Cork have a nice break before the SF - any chance Coffey might have recovered by then?
