Cork Minor Hurlers 2025

with your score difference its hard to see how ye wouldn't be in the final at this point no matter what way the results go
looking at limerick running through the middle of the Tipp defence its more than likely Deane will have a field day
Deane created a cracking goal v Tipp too last year with a good run and perfect pass. I believe Cork need more from their wing-forwards and mid-field if an AI is to be achieved by this group but of course other teams will have various weaknesses too in different areas.

The Limerick attack were strong down the middle v Cork with players such as Paul Murphy and Cathal Dennehy. They created plenty openings but didn't take them due to a combination of good saves by Tom C. Walsh and Limerick sometimes not being clinical. I was at the Gaelic Grounds before Tulla and Clare are good inside with Liam Murphy and Paul Rodgers but Limerick appear stronger at centre and full-forward respectively.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I understand 4 teams qualify from the group this year, if true it makes little sense to have a group of 5 which eliminates only one team.

2 in to munster final
3 plays 4 from leinster and vice versa

It only makes little sense in the context of the competition result
Makes perfect sense for 16 and 17 year olds to get to play 4 games

Strongly agreed. It's a format which would make zero sense for the senior championship, but for a development grade it's really good - there's a strong incentive to finish in the top two, but lots to play for even if you lose your opening couple of matches, as Limerick proved.

I haven't seen any of Tipp's matches so I can't say they were unlucky, but must be gutting to be out after three defeats by an aggregate of five points. The Waterford minors had a very similar story in 2019.

Tan and Killy

I understand the mindset but don't believe in it, there are U-16 tournaments and U-17 Challenge Cup in existence for development of those ages. Every minor and U-20 player in any era is a developing player but the Minor and U-20 championships are for winning and therefore need the extra edge of competitiveness, a roll of honour exists just like senior.

Being a development grade and having the extra edge of competitiveness aren't mutually exclusive - have a look at last year's AI final for starters. The difference between this format and other Munster round-robins (e.g., at U20, or at minor in 2023) is that in addition to each team having a guaranteed four games, four of the five will have at least one further game, often against a Leinster team they won't have previously played.

One of the Cork Celtic Challenge teams gave Wexford a fair clipping at MTU over the weekend, 1-30 to 1-9. Going on past results KK and Tipp are often the strongest teams in this competition - it will be interesting to see how the Cork teams fare against that level of opposition if/when they meet.

In the Leinster minor championship Kk destroyed Wexford - KK are apparently v strong, and Wexford went a man down after ten mins. Galway beat Dublin. All four of these teams will remain in the competition after their round robin.

Have we reduced the number of teams we enter from 4 down to 2 so?

I'm almost certain we used to enter more than 2 teams before.
