Many people are too intimidated by driver behaviour to take up cycling as an option for commuting, even with cycle lanes, it's not something to gloat over.
If I want to get my kid out cycling I take him to somewhere like Tramore Valley Park where it's safe, it's too dangerous on the roads, even for older kids, cycling to school is a non starter, no responsible parent would allow their primary school child cycle to school, that's the sad reality.
People like you, with an irrational fear of cyclists, are part of the problem, perhaps therapy might help.
