Cork Hurlers - Part 2

The last thing we need for next year is ‘continuity’ which will be the county boards reasoning behind naming furlong or mulcahy……it’s clear that this year was not good at all, loads of issues; selection, tactical, morale etc and there needs a total change in the management team which should then result in changes to the playing squad.Kingston has tried hard and has had plenty of time to win something but it hasn’t worked out, change needed and an overhaul of the squad alongside it
Who do you suggest should be given the gig so?

Looking at it from a neutral point of view Cork have delusions of grandeur. Ye beat a Tipp team in transition and a Waterford team clearly in distress and some of ye thought ye were world beaters. Some even asked who ye would play WHEN ye beat Galway.

Lets be honest, this Cork team are bang average and thats it.
Did someone suggest otherwise?
We still could easily have beaten a bang average Galway and ended up in a semi final.

From the look of the games this year most of the teams are bang average with the exception of Clare and Limerick who will meet in the final.

Cork's mentality is the major issue. How many first halves did they win this year? They're absolutely terrible out of the blocks. The nerves do be at them, and that has to be a management issue surely?

There are positives here. Second half they got stuck in. Galway tried to outmuscle them but couldn't. They're definitely stronger than they were. In full flow, I;m convinced they're as good as anybody, with even better players to come.

But the heads are all wrong. Kingston is a good guy. He deserves our thanks for all he's done. But it's been long enough. The hurling is good when it gets going. The physicality is much better. But the inconsistency, the switching off, the playing the first half like a challenge match - it has to stop. These guys need to get their heads in the game. Whatever is being said to them, it's not working. In fact, it's only making them nervous.

We need a manager who can pick them up. Give them the right attitude. Give them confidence and consistency. Lohan did that with Clare. It can be done. There's nothing between the teams at the moment. We're up there with the rest of them. We need to start believing we're better than the rest of them. That's how AI's are won. That's how they were always won. There is not a team in history that won an AI without starting the year utterly convinced that they'd win it. Call it arrogance if you want. We need that arrigance.

yeah, Sheflin is probably laughing away to himself on the bus back to Galway: "how did we do it".???
...?
Galway had 1 goal chance in the first half; they got 2.
We had 3 goal chances in the first half; we converted 0.

First half was reminiscent of the 1st half v. Clare last month. Very nervy. It seemed like the Junior B goal we gave away after 10 seconds sucked the belief out of us for half an hour or so.

Shefflin made changes before our sideline eventhough we were 6 points down coming up to half time. Such is life...

Feel sorry for Hoggie, what's another year.
Talk about snatching defeat from the jaws of victory....

Nothing neutral about this post.
Nothing "honest" about it either.
"a Waterford team clearly in distress" 🤣
Jesus wept.
Nobody gave us prayer against Waterford, apparently they were next in line to Limerick, the only team that could challenge them.....
And then we went without fear and beat them in their own backyard, THEN they went into meltdown.

It's been said here, by plenty of posters, that Limerick are ahead of the pack, within the pack it's 50:50 on any given day.

Though having stayed to watch Clare v Wexford, and seen how Clare tore into them down the closing straight I'm beginning to think that Clare might be pulling away from the pack as well.

What did ye make of the shoulder/elbow into Harnedy's head in the 2nd half when he was bearing down on goal?
Red card? Peno?... Game changer? Paud missed that one...

It’s been a strange year for Cork on the pitch and nothing typified that more than todays game. We dominated the first half in terms of possession and creating chances yet went in 5 points down at ht - we could easily have gone in 5 points up. The forwards had a really bad day and Collins coughed up 2 poor goals. Amazingly the game was still there for us - that’s how poor Galway were today. They probably can’t believe their luck to get a victory whilst playing so poorly. Sadly that only makes cork look worse. Consistency has been lacking all year - for example Lehane goes from man of the match to being whipped off at ht. Connolly likewise has gone from one extreme to another over 2/3 games. Probably avoided a hiding in CP in 2 weeks time but this was a game we could have won - that hurts
