Cork Hurlers - Part 2

None of the 40 have been allowed play with their club. They're only kids who should be out on the pitch enjoying themselves. There's 10/15 young fellas who have no chance of getting game time with Cork yet are stuck in some sort of alternate universe where all they do is train but never get to play in a match with anyone. FFS it's supposed to be a hobby.
Agree 100% with you Poo_Y. Nothing beats playing games for development, no amount of training or elite development shit builds a player like playing and enjoying your time. The lack of perspective is staggering, just let the fringe players play with their clubs instead of tying them into a situation where they are neither nor.. the absolute worst thing you can do with a talented young lad

I’ve no info on this particular squad as obviously most of the city players must not have eligible this year
But I will say this from years of experience that these development squads couldn’t possibly be any further away from elite..

Ah, to be fair I think this is a serious minor squad with great ability. I saw them pre-season and posted on here that I thought they were the real deal. Whether you agree with selection or not that’s an elite environment, but there’s absolutely no need to lock 40 lads into it and refuse to let 15 of them continue to hurl with their clubs, attend training, and be ‘on call’

In the past they used be allowed play Celtic Challenge but not with the club which to me was a reasonable compromise. Not allowed play Celtic Challenge this year for some reason. I must check out what happened.

What a total disgrace.

Rebel Og is not elite.. how could it be.. a few lads gathered together willing to give up some time to see after the boys.. that’s it..

I’m happy to be proven wrong but based on what I’ve seen over the last 10/15 years it ain’t even mediocre not to mind elite..,

Btw we’ve had the situation in previous years where boys were blocked playing with club and schools too

Dalton would be the only iffy one you’d imagine. We just have to pray no lads get injured in the coming weeks.
With this in mind, Downey & O'Leary will probably come back in for Cahalane & O'Brien.

Dalton then maybe in forwards? Possibly for Connolly. Dudsy must start semi for me.

This is disappointing to read. No enjoyment in that.

There’s not. Also no fun for parents who have to cart their son all over the county for 4 years to get through minor and U20 with limited playing time. The players/parents can get very frustrated with the setup and end up focusing on club after. There are many fine hurlers around the county in this situation.

1000%.. And many of the boys that do get to play a lot and do “make it” with Cork underage don’t settle back into club hurling when it all ends either.
There is that quick exercise any parent can do with their 15/16 year old son. Go into the archive section of Cork GAA website and look at the Cork minor squads from 5,10,15 and 20 years ago. How many of those players ended up starring for the seniors? And most worryingly did they all go on to play successfully at adult level for their club?
