Cork Hurlers - Part 2

Surprised nobody's mentioned the re-starts. Surely they'll be crucial to this? Our quick puckouts hurt Limerick last year. They have a 'process' and like to 'set' their defence. Committing men forward opens up space which Collins can hit - if allowed. Kiely did a lot of whining about quick puckouts last year, so you'd expect him to try and influence the ref again. A lot of this game could hinge on Collins being allowed to hit that space quickly - particularly if Hayes sits deep, which seems to be a certainty. So sadly, there's a very good chance the ref will influence this - one way or the other.

You're a good poster on here BR. You are driven to defend Coleman which is admirable.

Colemans positioning and tackling(below average) are not IC standard IMO. R Downey & C Joyce are way ahead as natural defenders at the fundamentals of catching, hooking, blocking, staying goal side of your man and stopping him. COB looked very good is this area during the league.

Coleman offsets his defensive limitations with Al Star touch and classy striking. He looks unreal on the ball, his play is being on the ball. He understandably wants to play the ball and influence the game with his strengths and honestly is a slack marker as a result. This is where a Tom Morrissey can clean up as IMO Coleman is not physically strong enough for Hegarty.

Therefore I can understand other posters calling for COB to start. We are lucky to have Coleman, he played fine very Clare, but dropped his performance in the 2nd half vs Tipp.
I appreciate the fair and reasoned response and argument. I actually think a strong case can be made for COB to start. If they move DF back to midfield I think it’s particularly smart to start COB. I don’t take exception that argument. It’s the hand wringing that some do over the possibility of Coleman starting that I take exception to. It’s overblown.

Cheers BR, its a fascinating game vs Limerick.

If Limerick do manage to crowd us out in their half backline on our puckout. B Hayes will be targetted.

Do we have a plan b? hit TOM at midfield or go short( not to SOD too much..) and work a shot from midfield from TOM, RD, CJ, DD or MC the same way that Lim work space for D Byrnes long range shots.

Enjoyed the last page of debate from good posters.
My main aspects were on how we are actually inflicting a different style of play with 3 inside.
That is possible with unbelievable work rate to be able to do what we set out to do.
Team selection yes we can debate all day long but for me the biggest change in how we play is an absolute understanding of what we are doing.
We are not trying to copy any other team and it have yet to see any opposition playing 3 inside.
Some are trying the long high ball into the full forward line from a puck out but I think we have implemented our game that now we can actually pin a full back line to be honest and so far back that we open space between the half forward line and full.
That’s our game and Collins puck out is so much improved it’s even a step up from Donal Og and Nash.
Tough game coming no doubt about that but I just like that feeling that we play different game to other teams and if we can do what we are capable of let’s see what happens.
The great teams always have a burst of scoring in them. I know it was only the League final in the Pairc but within 10 minutes of closing 1st half we scored heavily. Clare first half Heavily scoring. Tipp again another spurt of heavily scoring.
It’s the consistency of performance that we don’t go missing in games that could hurt us but every good or great team that wins it all scores heavily in periods of games and we are doing that so far.
That’s a good thing imo
