Cork Hurlers - Part 2

The half forward line that was obliterated on Saturday and has 2 players there years who can’t win rucks or field ball are
Returned without comment, obviously Barrett just had a bad night and is a super player, there seems to have been a reduction in the number of ‘potential’ bigger half forward types such as Cunningham, Twomey, cahalane for example, unless they give other fellas a go are we going to end up bringing on the exact same type of nice fast forward like Kingston, O’Connor and Flynn with very little option of a different type of forward maybe Healy if he actually gets a game and performs vs
Westmeath as that seems to be a benchmark for a poster or 2 here, accepting dalton and harnedy remain first choice but both are injury prone, just hope we don’t end up in a knockout match again with the same players coming on against a defence who will overpower them

Is the solution as simple as moving Hayes to the half forward line?

So looking at who was dropped from the panel: Conor O' Callaghan, Seán Twomey, Conor Cahalane, William Buckley, Alan Walsh, Eoin Carey, Daire O' Leary and Ben Cunningham.

Conor Cahalane is the most experienced to be dropped but due to injury and not much game time, he lost his form. Daire O' Leary is probably unlucky too. A big commute from Kildare and not guaranteed game time was probably a factor in him mutually parting ways. William Buckley lost a bit of recent form too but probably needs another year before being looked at. Seán Twomey and COC were 4 or 5 years on the panel and were close to making a breakthrough but didn't make it unfortunately and making way for some younger talent. Eoin Carey just off it too. Alan Walsh I would have liked to have seen more of. He is a handful for any defender and has an eye for goal. A bit of a Setanta. Worth keeping an eye on him. Ben Cunningham is dropped for the 2nd year in a row, mostly due to injury, which is disappointing for him. He was in great form for UCC. I hope there will be a place for him as soon as he gets fit.

Looking at who was drafted in: Jack Cahalane, Daniel Hogan, Cathal McCarthy, Micheál Mullins, Darragh Flynn, Darragh O' Sullivan and Diarmuid Healy. No harm to freshen things up even if some lads don't agree with their inclusion. Darragh O' Sullivan and Diarmuid Healy have the biggest futures of the newbies. Mullins too.

Of the lads that missed out, I think Jack Leahy and Brian O' Sullivan are both very unlucky not to get a look in. Their performances for club/division/college have been excellent and age is on their side. Like Cunningham, I hope they get drafted in as the year goes on, especially when some players are out injured at the moment. Adam Murphy and Seán Desmond deserve a bit of a try out in A v B games too.

Well that's already one name to be swapped from the panel.

Gutting for Power. I don't think he'd make the impact some people think he will, but he was a solid option to turn to. Very tough to come back from a dislocated shoulder to full 100%. I wish him all the best.
