Cork Hurlers - Part 2

I think Hoggie struggles to get back in the starting 15, he’s not played for the Glen all year and he’ll be lucky to now. Whether someone else can stand up in his absence is a big question.
Can’t agree with you there Cranky. Hoggie had a really good year. Whatever folk might think of them, his all star nomination offers more evidence of this.

On the contrary, his absence from the Glen team (albeit a big blow to the club) could help give Hoggie an extended physical and mental break from hurling. Though, to be fair, he would probably rubbish that view himself.

All valid points. If he does get back in the team next year it’ll likely be his last anyway. He’ll be 37 next May.

Well lads what if any club players standing out to ye so far that ye think might be deserving of a call from Pat Ryan?
None really Vlad. I don’t necessarily see that as a bad thing though. It demonstrates that Pat and the selectors have the panel and extended panel fairly well nailed down. I would more question, are there any players standing out and putting their hand up to get into the first 15 for the league. Power & Healy are the obvious one for me. Keen to hear any suggestions on corner backs though..

Not really, in the games I've seen it's still the lads already on panel who stood out. Couple of the u20s have obviously got potential but they probably need a year or 2 more before they'd be fully ready.
In the age range 23-28 I haven't really seen anyone that really stood out, some really good players of course but you'd feel still lacking something for inter county level.

Not to answer my own question, anyone here have a view on whether Kingston (Ballinora) would be worth looking at corner back? Would Mullins be someone who could be phased in at corner back? Or is this a case of square pegs for round holes..?

Not a whole lot putting blowing me away to be honest! Especially backs.

I'm really curious to see how a few of the Imokilly lads do in a tougher test against Blackrock but I've been impressed by forwards Diarmuid Healy and Jack Leahy and wing back Daire O'Leary and Timmy Wilk.

Colin Walsh is an absolute unit and has played well but at intercounty level............

For lads that are on the panel and could challenge for places - I thought Padraig Power has looked very good and Ger Millerick has been excellent whenever I've seen him.

From my own club Midleton it's still O'Connell and Lehane as the stand out players. Lehane has been a highlight reel so far!

Kingston is a fine hurler. Is he with UCC this year for Fitz Cup? Hopefully he can kick on in that.

Mullins might not have the cuteness to play corner back. Better around midfield I would think. He might be up against it coming back to senior training with no college or division to play with. I hope he comes through as his desire and attitude is top class.

A bolter for me might be Tobin from Bride Rovers. Always impressed by him at minor & u20. I think he would be good half back with a strong presence and a good hand. He would need a year or more on the panel to settle in and improve but he looks to made of the right stuff to me.

There's loads of lads from the recent successful u20 squads who you could make the argument to look at and nobody could really argue that they deserve a run.

The general consensus this time last year was we needed of our very good players to become great players. That process has certainly started in Barrett, both Downeys, Hayes and Connolly. They need to maintain that standard now and kick on.

We need these other younger lads to step up and become very good players and back up the existing stars.

I'd be positive about 2025 but getting out of Munster with Clare and Limerick away could be even tougher this year.

As previous poster alluded to, probably good thing that answer is no. If some lad was shooting the lights out in every game, you'd be thinking how the f**k did Ryan and his team not give this lad a chance!!
You mean like Padraig Power? The word from Pat Ryan in the lead up to the final was that Padraig was on fire., yet when push came to shove they brought on Jack O Connor! In my book Power is a far superior hurler and will hopefully get a chance to show that next year

Conor Lehane is another guy on the panel who was overlooked when the final was there to be won. His composure on the ball would have been crucial when Dalton and Seamus went off

Rather than looking for new additions, who mostly are either not ready or not inter county standard, the real changes will hopefully come from the bench with Robbie, Power and Ethan Twomey in pole position.

Like others I worry a bit about our options in the full back line. Kevin Lyons to me looks like the one who could breakthrough but he is still young and maybe Eoin Roche and Conor O’Callaghan can push on. They will need to
