Cork Hurlers - Part 2

Revenge will be had, it is overdue and by God it will be sweet.

I think it is mortifying the PUC homecoming is going ahead with a load of music and the like, let alone it being charged. Mortified on behalf of the players tbh but I guess a few cheers might perk them up for a while.

They've given us some spin this year. Hopefully they can kick on next year.

Just watched it back.

The 2 Downeys are incredible men. Plenty of heart and hurling to keep those jerseys for a long time ahead.

Thought the FB line did well as a unit.

Anyone who thought Coleman played well clearly watched the game on TV. He was dominated in any situation where possession was there to be won, and showed his lack of defensive nous for both goals. Looked lovely in patches on TV spraying the ball around though.

DD and Barrett never got going. There didn’t appear to be a plan to use Deccie and there needs to be. Not sure he has the hurling brain we need to play freely on initiative.

Harnedy is a warrior. Gave it his all and we needed him for the full game yesterday in that battle. Lot of mileage on the clock though.

Fitz was disappointing but TIM did ok in patches.

My biggest disappointment yesterday was the FF line. AC and BH spent so much time looking for the ball our forwards in the last decade wanted, the perfect ball. Not once did we have 2 of them at the edge of the square screaming for a 50:50 in on top. Hoggy was poor by the standards we set for him, he was taken to the cleaners to be honest and he missed a routine free early on.

I don’t think we will see JOC again in a Cork jersey. Ethan didn’t look related to a hurler and maybe it was just the lay off and the occasion. I have always preferred TOC and BR to him but he’s young yet.

Lots here saying we will win one in the next few years. I hope so, but nothing guaranteed. The famine could continue.

Overall this year was a huge improvement, but next year there only one thing we can do to show improvement.

Hoggie was the top scorer in the championship in 2024 (5-74)

Not bad for a fella that’s finished!
He’d a good enough year and a Celtic cross would have been a lovely reward after a wonderful career. Many fellas in Cork have AIs that shouldn’t even be allowed tog with Hoggie. As an example I saw a few bang average club hurlers waving back to us yesterday from the 99 team
Take the frees away from Hoggie and all is laid bare. Greg Mike has a strong point for consideration , that’s being made for a good few years now.

Bang average😂😂Come again

so many taking points, in a close game every liitle decision gets huge scrutiny,
the non-penalty I think is correct as the ball is running through to the keeper, the missed 65 and last play are obvious mistakes,
however I am sure that two of the three Clare hawkeye "Níls" were points(the last one was well wide),
a really bad foul put Rob Downey out of the match, they committed some really nasty professional fouls-several times they went in with wild swings
after that first 10 min when we were scintillating (1-7 to 0-3 after 11 min) Clare did have an edge,
but we were ahead as late as 83 mins and the ref gave Clare a very soft free to get level
however they missed more than we did and these games tend to tighten up as the end approaches.
There were some real mess ups by our sideline but they are heroes when we win,
One is why did we persist with long puckouts up the middle- I would say Clare got about 10 points directly from them,
Kingston looked superb but he need to be on sooner 60 min+ is tool late and even in extra time when we had more legs than Clare we failed to get him on the ball, I felt we always needed a goal and I would have brought Connolly back on especially after Cleary went off,
Coleman was probably our best player but he played an unnecessary risky ball with the scores level when he could have cleared our lines, Twomey lost it to Tony Kelly, Clare went ahead and we never came level again. The free Hoggie missed just on ht in et was also vital, the save from RoF when he should have taken a point.
I'm amazed there hasn't been more talk about that foul that put Rob Downey out of the game. He was a huge loss to Cork in extra time

Just a quick thought on the homecoming , which to be fair, had to be organised in advance. They couldn't un-book The Frank's and John Spillane, could they ?

I think The Pairc is ideally suited for this . Far more so than the City Centre . It'll be a great night for the smallies who probably aren't hurting as much as the adults - and the players , who I'd suggest would much prefer to be anywhere else in the world .

As for the €4 cost .... I accept that running events cosy money , but I think the GAA miss the PR opportunity so oten !! Why not charge €2.50 a head for yesterday , and advise that any surplus would be split between Marymount and the players holiday fund ? I was in Croke Park but I would have bought tickets
