Cork Hurlers - Part 2

At last some sense. Its always the same on here. The Cork players gave it everything. Clare were maginally better.
Cork have the greatest supporters in the country yet on my travels around Ireland this year we are becoming known as a bunch of moaners who believe they are superior to other counties . Next we will here some of them singing hurling's coming home .
In fairness to pat ryan whom I have great admiration for you never hear him making excuses and blaming refs when we are beat .

The most disappointing thing about yesterday is that Limerick could and probably should win at least another three.

Next year needs to be about winning Munster. As cut throat as it, scraping through Munster won't do and will just end up in more Croke Park disappointment. We are behind Clare and they are behind Limerick.
I'd tend to agree with that.

There's only so many performances like the two Limerick games in any team. Best not having to use them getting out of the group stage and in a semi final.

Thats it in a nutshell. A lot of the Cork lads didnt perform to the best of their ability and they still only beaten by a point. A marquee forward is badly needed.

I was surprised to see Connolly subbed so early - Hogan had him well beaten but he’s the one guy who can manufacture a goal out of nowhere.

Alan may need to evolve his game a bit next season. Outside of Tipp who were awful - he has struggled with the best full backs around.

I think Shane Barrett will be closely marked going forward also - excellent this season.
I would have brought Connolly back on for Jack O'connor in extra time

Watched the game again this morning before work and the thought struck ne that for all and good as Kelly's goal was , he would not have scored it at the other end . He would have been fouled , brought down. It would have been cynical but that's why they are winners today and we are not. Do we need , or want , to play that way ? The pragmatist in me says "hack away if it brings a title" ( see the assault on Connolly that resulted his his yellow card !! ) , the romantic in me wants to see the game played brilliantly , skillfully and in the truest manner possible , even if it results in goals against us

We are guilty of looking at the game with rose tinted glasses, You have to be cynical to win, All great teams in all sports have that, Brazil 1982 were
the greatest team of all time to watch but Italy were too wily for them,

When I have a nightmare I see Tony Kelly!
Clare have 3 of the best forwards in Ireland, Kelly, Shane and Rodgers. On their day they can win games by themselves, yesterday they all clicked. Very hard to outscore that, we got close.

Let’s see how Clare handle the favourites tag next year. Kiely up Limerick way will be licking his lips to have another crack at them.

So will we I hope.

Doesn't matter what that the sport, every team needs a bit of dog in them.
2 of those Clare goals wouldn't have been scored by Cork players.

I don’t really blame the players. Sure they can’t all be wrong.. it’s just that the dark arts and Things like that don’t happen in Cork club hurling. Let’s not forget that club hurling in Cork is a non contact sport.
