Cork Hurlers - Part 2

Last week Collins was dropping high ball down into space with a man running on to it, it should be a low fast ball when hitting it to space with a man running on to it. This is something that Brion is very good at and I imagine when management were drawing up the puck out routines they had low ball in mind.
And so is Collins, that's why he replaced Nash and Nash subsequently dropped.
There was Gale force wind, to suggest the wind didn't catch some of it would be wrong. He was hitting it into space 70/80 yards there's only so low you can go without it being intercepted like.

Also maybe PR asked for that so the lads can improve winning ball in the air as it's very evident we're not exactly strong in the air.

There cant be a gale force wind against him in both halves and I don't think PR would of asked him to hit shite puckouts to the forwards to "toughen them up".

Anti Collins brigade, I didn't see much long high balls in the first half against the gale, I did see some in the 2nd half with the gale alright.

Shite puck outs ? ? how are fellas gonna learn or be good at winning aerial balls if we don't try it?
And fact you describe it as 'toughening up' you well and truly are talking nonsense.

Great to see Tommy O Connell in his best position and we need him in our starting team come championship. He brings badly needed fight and bite with plenty skill too.
Tommy looks to have added a few kg’s of muscle over the winter.

I’d much rather him in the middle of the field smashing into rucks and playing simple ball into the HF line than playing in HB line.

He’s a terrier like Luke Meade but with a higher celling imo and mean that in greatest respect to Luke who’ve I’ve always admired.

That’s exactly what you described by you saying that PR might ask Collins to hit high dropping ball so that the forwards get better at winning high ball, now that is a load of shit.

Easy knowing you've never coached the game at any age or played at high level ?
You can only get better at a skill by practicing it, it's all well and good doing it in training with no pressure. Try it in a game completely different.
League is for experimenting and trying things.
It's a known fact we're not good in the air catching off puck outs.
Only way we get better is doing it.

Your local club (if you even have one) would tend to do the same in league/challenge games before championship, try a new or different tactic and see if it works.

Delanys and Dillons amalgamated at U14 and U16. Dillons absolutely did take our eye off the ball. That’s turning now, albeit more slowly than we thought and would like.

A bit challenge is retaining players up to U16. Sars and the Glen are very attractive clubs and young lads normally have their head turned long before they are ever known. The Kearneys for example are Dillons lads.
All the way back to Brian Dineen

Wrong, the only way we get better is by picking players at half foward who can actually win the ball
