Cork Hurlers - Part 2

The way people go on about Dalton here you'd think he'll be the second coming of Ring.
I'd love to see him progress and wish him luck but on the evidence we have:
He's a standout player at Senior A level for O'Neils and has performed well on a very good Imokily team.

At Inter-co level I remember him playing on the team when Myler was over them - played with Darragh Fitz - won in Waterford (scored a nice pen. to win it), I think he got sent off in the next round against Limk. where Cork lost. - I do remember that he had a quite game.

Senior InterCo. - at championship level - he played very well against Dublin in the 2020 championship, and was playing well against Tipp but had to come off injured on 50mins?
Then on top of that I remember a couple of cameos, scored against Limk. in 2019 from under the stand - and scored a similar point last year against KK.
I can't recall how he's gone in league games

To my mind he's never performed consistently as well as say even an Alan Connoly at Senior level - he seems to be injury prone, and he lacks a bit of pace.
On the plus side - he's accurate, he's big - but I doubt he'd be a consistent puc out target, and he works hard.
Pretty much my exact memory and opinion of him and I even have some of the programmes to back this up since according to Red and Blue he never had a proper run and I never saw him anyway. 🤣

Different style, different manager, young man with talent. Let's hope it works out for him but the bullshit that was thrown at Kingston and his team as if they were deliberately sidelining the greatest thing since the slice pan was pure bollox. Kingston was entitled to chose the team he saw fit to chose. Its more about the zealots on here demanding one style above all.

Unlike Hank I feel the new management team will get plenty of latitude on here because they will be seen as returning to the 'Cork' style of the 70s and 80s etc and once that is done mediocrity will be accepted.

Why are certain posters seemingly fixated on Dalton?

I hope Pat Ryan is reading this and does something to placate the 2 or 3 guys here who are convinced he is the answer to Cork's All Ireland prayers.

In the name of God Pat, unlock Dalton.

I remember a pen picture of him a while back saying he was 1.8 ms
thats 6ft
maybe you can produce something to the contrary but this is interesting

I wonder is there a bit of generosity going on here as is the norm with lads playing

hes definitely bigger than i thought if he is 6 ft 2.
still not convinced
the photos above are not in any way instructive
You are right. He's around 6ft. Tops 6ft 1. Plenty big enough for a keeper.

Not sure if any of he seen the article in the paper. Pat Ryan I believe ( from what I read) said basically everyone is going to be looked at and then it’s their chance to step up.
Dalton will have his chance and he needs to get way fitter because he gets injured a lot and so does Millerick and they are fabulous club players but I don’t think both of them have made any real impact so far to be considered a starter.
One supposed to be a man marker of which is unproven and the other player is unproven also in consistency.
I am sure management will look at everything but lads relax please .

Ya - respect for that. Agreed when he talks hurling he is OK - but the banter is painful. He needs to rein it in.
Needs that as it’s on a public forum. I think Landers handles himself well and gets his points across. He is quite entertaining. A lot of snide comments from Cyril Farrell and Daly but Landers handles them well!

Collins was poor against Galway and didn’t have a great year overall but the same could be said for many other players. The amount of missed chances at the other end against Galway was insane. I think he deserves a chance to right the wrongs after just his second season (nominated for an All Star in his first) and not be discarded like many on here want. I know little about being a goalkeeper but I’d imagine it’s not a help either when we never had a settled full back all year.

Completely agree, All keepers are under the spot light more so than anyone on the pitch. Collins hasn't had a great season but I'd back him to bounce back but needs help from management by picking a solid back 6 that doesn't play around in the back line too much and provide a better standard of coaching. Do IC teams have specific goal keeping coaches? Could someone like a Donal Og, Nash, Ger Cunningham offer some support in this regard ?

Don't think anyone was suggesting Collins get dropped completely from the squad (apologies if there was). The big concern though is that there didn't seem to be viable competition for his place (only his brother) and as such he may have been "resting on the oars" a little bit. Another keeper in actively vying for the position of number 1 number 1 would bring them both to a higher level I think, and ultimately be better for the team.

The fact that if Cork had progressed against Galway, Collins who apart from dropping the lob into his own net (it can happen but hopefully will never ever happen him again in a Cork jersey) was beaten by a shot from the end-line would still be in goal for Cork for the next round because there was no viable alternative was a major concern imho
