Cork Hurlers - Part 2

I agree to an extent, but I think a lot of it has arisen because of the cult of Caroline Currid!

There is such an air of mystique around her and what she has done for the Limerick team (which is to an extent self fulfilling!) that people have gotten the idea that these people are magicians, rather than just another part of the team.

I have no doubt that CC is great at her job, but she is only a small part of what made (and makes) that Limerick team the awesome beast that it is.
Currid is a huge part of Limericks success as are the players and management and i bet when their time is up that will all be revealed

You don't. That's an opinion, not a fact.
It's an opinion based prediction but although hypothetical if Anne mac is correct next year then it becomes fact. However wasn't it yourself who stated similar when you asked a poster would they bet against Cork coming through in the round robin. IMO Cork are very likely to come out in the r.r., afterall Waterford will be going through a major over haul and Clare a mini one with Tipp yet to bring consistency. However mainly for reasons I've already underlined in previous posts I would not back Cork to win next years AI. All the logic points that Limerick will retain Liam Mac although for a lot of the wrong reasons but Cork are in a way bigger hole not related to the talent they've available many on here don't have a clue about and others are in denial.

I know Ben quite well but haven't met him for a while, however recently he expressed to a colleague of mine that Cork only need a few tweaks. I would be going with a very different team at the start of the league and see how things go, I believe Damien Cahalane and Robbie O'Flynn should be thanked for their commitment and guys such as Sean O'Donoghue, Seamus Harnedy and Darragh Fitzgibbon are guys the team should fall back on if the new guys don't produce the goods.

i never said that i didn't think Cork would progress next year. Mixing me up with someone else I'd say.

It's all water under the bridge at this point but I don't think there will be wholesale changes next year because in general most of the best players are already in the squad.
There certainly are a few like Colin Walsh of Kanturk putting their hands up for next year and I am sure they will be given a chance in the spring.

The team may have to be moved around to get the best balanced team,
We need to tighten up in defence. I think we may see the half back line changed to bring in some natural defenders.
We need to look at the ability to win ball in the half forwards and we need to get the ball to where it matters faster imo.

Accepting there were mistakes made this year I do also think that we were incredibly unlucky with injuries. We went into the Galway game with four key players missing or injured. I think Limerick or any other county would struggle with that... we certainly did.

I do think we will see a few players may not be in the squad next season and it may not just be players at the autumn of their careers.
There are some young players in the 2026 squad who I feel are currently playing for inclusion next year.

Good straight up post though I would say Ben would want a few tweaks himself if thats what he thinks.

The best players may be on the panel but the best mix to win big matches is not on the pitch. You need fellas who will stand up when the shit hits the fan

Colin Walsh, Brian Sull, Brian Roche and Michael Mullins all have to be given proper game time next year, and William Buckley, Barry Walsh and Alan Walsh need to be trusted and become regular starters

Rob wont do center back but he could do a badly needed job in the half fowards, other than that I wouldnt be looking to move some others around, replace them with younger players i named above

just curious, which of our defenders are not natural defenders?, they all regularly play there for their clubs

This i 100% agree with but i cant see a change in approach next year as i dont think Ben thinks that is a problem

Ah stop witn the excuses, all teams get injuries

The squad needs to be reinvigorated, bring in 4 or 5 from the 20s and a few who are putting their hands up in training

And it needs to be said one or two current panelists need to be given a fair go next year and management need to have a good look at themselves too
