Agendas aside. What was Plan B the last day?

Say we park the game, and we need to reveal a plan should we meet them again and it's tight, what's the plan if we need to do 'something' in the last 15 to 20 minutes to give us 1 to 2 extra points?

What we saw in the second half was in effect plan B - Cork adjusted their usual style and went less direct than they had been doing this year to try to take account of the conditions. Compare it to how they played in the first half, or the round-robin game v Limerick where there was more direct ball into the FF line.

As it happened, the plan didn't work on the day. The challenge for the management is to figure out whether that was down more to execution or to the approach being wrong. One thing I would say is they need to think about their use of the bench, it didn't give much of a lift last Sunday and hasn't all year imo.

In fairness as you said it’s a pointless argument, Dalton was injured last week so he had as much a chance at taken a free as Christy Ring.

The weekly Dalton debate needs to stop management don’t fancy him and that’s the end of it.

IMO he should be on the panel as I think he offers something different and could be a wild card in a tight game but they have made the decision and the rest of us just need to live with it and move on.

Not conceding scores is the central part of this teams philosophy and employing mobile players that can get up and down the pitch for 75mins+ is how they are going to achieve that, unfortunately Declan doesn’t fit that profile.

As a result we aren’t going to see the swashbuckling forward play we did under Pat Ryan, it’s more pragmatic but it’s repeatable and that could be what finally gets these guys over the line.

People can debate what they like. A star player and starter from last year being thrust aside is a topic of discussion whether you like that or not.

Obviously not a criticism as he was injured but I think looking ahead there might possibly be a lesson here for Ben anyway.

Cork still had one sub to make last Sunday when the free was given. Mahony was clearly in trouble after the hit he took and in no position to nail it. We've seen across multiple sports that it is a difficult ask for a player to come on and take a penalty or free kick to win a game, but equally if there's one player in and around the Cork setup who would be the highest percentage on that free it's Dalton, cold or not.

When you're carrying 9 subs it's not unreasonable to have a backup long range free taker among them, and when that person has the other capabilities Dalton has then it's probably strengthened his case for the number 25 jersey that he's been in and out of this year. If Tim picks up another injury then anything beyond 65 is probably going to fall to Coleman and that's probably a major drop in percentage from Dalton. Games between Cork and Limerick in championship are rarely decided by more than a point or two.

I know fellas will go on about "carrying freetakers" but that's frankly bollocks. If Cork had won by a point last week or even on penalties the key reason would have been Connolly nailed his frees and Aidan O'Connor didn't. Simple as.

Great admirer of Ben but i think he needs to take a leaf from John Cleary on media interviews.

I think he should occasionally send Jerry to do interviews. Just to confuse the media

so we cant debate a player that has been a regular starter for the last few years, is currently part of the panel, getting zero gametime and in your words “management dont fancy him”?

They are cutting off their nose to spite their face if they double down on their decision when its blatently obvious we need some physical options on the bench

We were being bullied on the pitch last Sunday and they made 1 middle 8 change, bringing in a game young lad who is still raw as fuck re senior inter county hurling and he looked , along with others, lost on the pitch
