Cork Hurlers - Part 2

I have no issue with you (or anyone else) expressing negative opinions. I have an issue with the notion that it is somehow a service to Cork hurling to do so though.

Do you actually believe that BOC, or any of his players, are reading this stuff? Seriously like?!
You state you have no issue yet go onto to create a made up issue.
I’ve no notion of my “service” of opinion. I highlighted some concerns of my own in which a handful of people agree to as well.
If memory serves me correct post all Ireland final 2025 in July and August you agreed with some of my opinions and hindsight.
This year cause I’m posting at time rather than hindsight I’m the bollox.

This is a direct quote from you
" i agree that these are better preparation but it's only better preparation if these problems are actually discussed yet I see very little being discussed."

That indicates that you believe that in some way the opinions you post on here filter through to the hurlers. As does this quote

"Sure how will they know if pundits/analysts/journalists and supporters don't give their opinions."

That's the bit that I disagree with. I have no issue with the opinions, just the notion that they impact the team!

I'm sure I did.

I never said you were a bollox! No idea where you are getting that from.

I'm not trying to have a fight with you, or to insult you. In case that isn't clear.

A direct quote of me agreeing with another poster :)
Normally a lot of what we discuss here are also discussed in some form via pundits/analysts/journalists and even as I said management would acknowledge it and I gave Pat Ryan as and example. As I said BOC has a different style, cards close to his chest and maybe he's doing it purposely to avoid negativity in media and credit due there, however as I said from Pat Ryan's time him openly discussing it gave us fans reassurance.

The bit you disagree below that then came with some sarcasm - I know full well the lads tend the block out the media along with supporters, be it social media or print media and they have their own bubble however when they do interviews during the week post games and pre games the host would normally through in a question like 'last weekend there ye won but ye were ran close was X, Y or Z an issue?' The lads tend to avoid answering fully and tend to give a Connolly answer of 'look our goal is to win every game and we're taking it game by game and so far so good'

As regards being a bollox was also sarcasm as you said you had no issue yet twisted things to create an issue of 'notions' so I'm a bollox for having 'notions' and should only express my opinion if it's positive.

One thing Ive noticed so far is we seem (I don’t have stats) to have cut out the 15 min spells with no score. I doubt we have gone longer than 7 or 8 so far. Any time it has threatened to happen a big player has stepped up to score. I know it happened first half v Tipp that they scored 4 or 5 unanswered only for Connolly to get a great point. Hayes (I think) got us off the ground v Limerick, etc. Long may this continue

we were still a little bit streaky in the first 2 matches

Tipp game
12-21 no score
29-36 no score
60-70 no score

Limerick
9 mins to score
several 5 min period not to score
27-34 no score

something to keep working on

These are very fair points.

One of the reasons I was probably a bit more optimistic than most after the league final was that on a day where Limerick went well and Cork misfired they managed to keep the scoreboard ticking over, stay in the argument and not let Limerick get away from them. Going 5-10 minutes without a score isn't great but realistically given the quality of the opponents you face the majority of McCarthy cup teams are going to have a period where either their backs or their forwards get on top of you and if those coincide then that's when you can leak the way we did in the 21 and 25 finals, or the round robin against Clare in 23, Limerick in 22 or 25. Where Cork were going 15-20 minutes without troubling teams in attack.

12 months ago that doesn't happen and I think Cork lose that league final by 12-15 points.

I think that’s a good point, the performance in the league final was poor but they did stay in the hunt on the scoreboard for most of the game

Steady on the hype train lads

We have had a brilliant start to the championship and part one of the plan has been more or less achieved with one game to go which is fantastic

But we have nothing won yet, and by nothing I mean one thing, the all ireland

We had a gaping hole in the middle of our defence with the short term loss of Rob and the long term loss of Joyce, Rob will return but we still have to see if we are better set up to defeat a Gillane led Limerick, let no one kid ye on that

There are still question marks over our free taking and now penalty taking. These have not been resolved and could come back to bite us in a tight game

And there are plenty of other teams than Limerick capable of taking us down in a one off game, Tipperary, Clare, Galway and Kilkenny will be huge tests if we meet them in July

So steady as she goes for now

BE BRAVE, BELIEVE

What’s Connolly strike rate from frees and would Coleman be a solution to penalties.
