Cork Hurlers - Part 2

It’s amazing what forwards get away with compared to backs. The forwards that scored 0-2 in a whole half of an All Ireland final and can’t seem to put opposition backs coming out under any proper pressure, didn’t need a huge amount of work but our backs that are under constant pressure because our forwards can’t win the ball are screwed.

All our problems the last day stemmed from the forwards. Granted I would rather we had better defenders than we have but the criticism they get while the forwards get a free pass is mad.
Completely agree. Until our forwards bring intensity and consistent tackling the defense has no chance. They are hard to watch at times flailing about after any move a defender makes. They are seriously wanting in terms of knowing how to contain a man.

Ben had to make a big choice at the outset.

Stick with the team he inherited from Pat Ryan or start a major rebuild in the hope of winning an AI in year 2 or 3.

Munster and League champs after reaching last 2 AI finals.

I think going with the former was a decent call.

He has a clear strategy of improving some players such as Connolly. He's got a lot out of TOC, Buckley and B Walsh

Also developing Mullins, H O Connor, D O Leary and A Walsh.

I think Ben has done very well. He has retained the excellent bond and worked on dispelling the demons.

Very unfortunate to be missing 2 big players v Tipp.

He has a huge task going to the AI champs and entertaining the best side of the era, a week later.

I think he'll get 2 performances that will mirror his personality.

I'd see Tipp as 50:50 if we had Duds & SOD. I see it about 55:45 now.

The result and injuries will impact our chances v Limerick.

I'm going to enjoy an exciting Munster C/ship and not build up my expectations

Decided to watch back the 2023 Limerick game to contrast with Sunday.
Collins's distribution on the day was excellent, his confidence is clearly shot.
TOM to the HF line could work but it would have to be MC to midfield which I don't see happening.

I think you have to see Sunday as a blessing in disguise. Better to get this awakening now, rather than in Thurles.

We haven't become a bad team overnight, though I get why some of these players are being questioned. They definitely have a habit of not showing any real character or leadership when the chips are down, and that has to change. I take the 'scar tissue' argument on board too. But these are supposed to be grown men. They're not kids anymore. Sometimes hurling (and life) knocks you down and it will get in your head. You have to learn to get up, and keep on getting up, until you get where you want to go. Some guys are in the last chance saloon with this. They either learn it now, or they won't get another chance. But for now, they're what we have and they are capable.

Leaders must emerge. Now's the time.

I watched it myself the other night as well actually. Some weather and would have been a sweet victory or draw even which is all we needed. The penalty was a real sickener and we gave away another terrible goal as well that I'd forgotten.

Kingston was better than I remembered that day but that fudged pick up in the second half was nearly a turning point. Could definitely still have something to offer though but seems to be down the pecking order. Agree on Collins but caveat that it was an easier day for puck outs and also a fitter Seamus Harnedy to target who was flying. I was also reminded of Dalton's and Hoggie's free taking.

It was a great game, we were probably 3/4 points the better team. But at the time that wasn’t enough.
If only we’d seen Hayes’s magic dust a year early, I don’t see who’d of stopped us after that.
