Cork Hurlers - Part 2

Tipp survive in division 1
That’s a big showing in the second half as they were a nice bit behind at halftime.

They will have their last run out now this weekend before playing us in round 1 of Munster but this weekend coming against KK is a bit of a dead rubber isn’t it?

That first round game in Thurles will be a savage clash - not to state the obvious but you need points from your home games given how tight it’s been in recent yrs so it’s setup to be a cracker, even if its first round of games.

Tipp have an outside chance of making the league final if they can get a big score against KK and if Limerick lose to Galway, then all 3 of Tipp, Limerick & Galway will be on 8 points and it will go down to score difference. Game means nothing to KK but pride

Just looking at the table, if Galway were to beat Limerick by 2 points and Tipp beat KK, all 3 teams on 8 points - And Limerick & Galway would be on equal points and equal score difference, what happens then? Goals for, points for?

*Obviously taking in to account Cork beat Offaly and end up on 10 points*

My understanding is it would first be score difference between the 3 teams.
Then if the top 2 are still level it goes head to head, in the example you mentioned that would mean Galway go into final.

Don't think Tipperary have any chance of the final, even with a win they'd need to win by 25 pts or more to close the scoring difference. Kilkenny aren't going great but they're still not losing to tipp by that margin

I’d agree with that view on the “top notch” Limerick performance. It was a home game and pretty much a full strength team (how often is everyone available?) I think that’s why Pat Ryan was talking such uncharacteristic muck on the Indo podcast - Mullane copped it immediately for what it was.
Half back line is the platform in modern hurling - we had only one of our top four (5?) half backs playing in that line.
No wonder Ben couldn’t stop smiling afterwards.

Pat Ryan sounded like someone that was trying desperately to convince himself more than anyone that Limerick are ‘back’.
Fact of the matter is Limerick haven’t won their last 3 championship games. If you go back further again, they’ve only won 2 out of 7 in championship.
Even this year in the league, they’ve had up and down performances. They were poor against Offaly and Waterford. They only pulled away from Cork in the last quarter with a full strength side out.

This idea that Limerick are favourites seems to come from an assumption that they’ll reach a level that they haven’t reached for over two years now at least.
