Cork Hurlers - Part 2

Lads the vast, vast majority of fans of both teams are grand, and get on just fine sitting beside each other in the stands.

Some odd few do go mental in the heat of the game, not great but essentially bog standard human reaction to intense games.

And then there are the handful of yokes who just go to get smashed and troll.
Still a tiny minority.
I didn't see a bit of bother at any game with Limerick last year or last Sat either.
Here here.

There was a Limerick fan next to me at the Munster Final last year and it was mostly Cork fans around him. He was giving it socks and roaring in our direction any time Limerick scored. In turn I was doing likewise to him.

When the last penalty was missed he turned to me, shook my hand and said well done.

How it should be.

absolutely, i sat next to a limerick guy and his kid last Saturday, i conciously befriended the kid just so his dad could relax without having to worry is there some nutjob next to him. Shook both their hands afterwards and said we’ll see eaxh other again

As you said, how it should be

Ben has a bit of a dilemma

There are a good few guys who havent seen much if any game time yet but we also need to start bedding down our championship team or we will be undercooked for Tipperary

Being used to how the players around you play is a vital part of the cohesiveness required.

Will he stick with the goalie? With the full back? Who plays no 6 now? Who plays midfield with Tommy? Who replaces Duds if hes not ready? who plays at 13 come championship? And who takes our frees and penalties?

Thats alot of questions 5 weeks out from championship
On goalie, we know what collins can do and cannot do. I'd try POS in there. If his puckouts are on the money, crisp, short and mid ones, to hand, and less of a lob on long ones, he starts. Collins puck outs were so poor vs Lim, combined with the A.I final, his confidence must be low.

No 6 is interesting. If Coleman & E Downey are fit, they are the form players so its either Coleman, E Downey, Joyce or Coleman, R Downey, E Downey. We are well stacked here if anyone is injured. Don't play injured players like R Downey last year.

Its Tim O Mahony with Tommy O'Connoll midfield. After that, its Brian O Sull for me. Mullins and Twomey have not played well enough to challenge for me.

With Fitz wing forward, Barrett centre, if Duds out, its impossible to call, Harnedy or Dalton or Barry Walsh to start with ROF/ HOC live sub options or the opposite.

Its Connolly, Hayes with Buckley roaming vs Tipp because they will probably play a sweeper again.

We can go 3 man Full forward line with Barry Walsh now which is another live option for us.

Agree Corkfan82 especially regarding Brian O'Sullivan but not convinced the management will select him on the championship panel until I see his name in black on white. First I'd play him v Offaly.

I believe the following team is good enough to defeat Offaly in the Pairc allowing for impact off the bench?

Paudie O'Sullivan/Brion Saunderson
Eoin Roche Daire O'Leary Darragh O'Sullivan
Cormac O'Brien Eoin Downey Ger Millerick
William Buckley Brian O'Sullivan
Ben Cunningham Brian Keating Hugh O'Connor
Paudie Power Alan Walsh Alan Connolly

Subs: P. Sull/Brion, S. O'Donoghue, R. Downey, N. O'Leary, C. Joyce, M.Coleman, E. Twomey, Tommy O'C, Timo, Fitzy, S. Barrett, S. Harnedy, B. Walsh, B. Hayes, J. Leahy.

Don't know if it's good enough to beat Offaly as I'd expect them to be doing a dressed rehearsal for championship at this stage.

But it might be good enough, and that's what the league is for. We (nor probably anybody else either) are not trying to win it. We are trying to see who might fit into championship plans. If we happen to win the league while doing that, that's a damn good sign. We (and everybody else) set out to win every game. But putting your strongest team on the pitch to ensure that victory, is a complete waste of time.

Switch Buckley & Keating, nice experimental team. There is little point playing our 1st team and hammering Offaly, we will learn nothing.
