Cork Hurlers - Part 2

Best guess for the team vs Tipp to open Munster. A fools errand surely but what the hell...

I think it's a bit of horses for courses. Thought hard about whether or not Millerick starts for NOL. It's a tough one. Crazy to leave ED out of the the halfback line but who do you drop? COB is next but he's 5th in the HB line. You could start ED and Joyce but then TOC misses out and I think he's played too well and offers too much of what they need. Harnedy is a great man to come in with the game on the line. Can't move anyone out of that HF line in my view. I think Dalton will start some games but against Tipp I think they'll want something fresh. Buckley to roam a good bit. Where am I wrong?
CJ vs RJ.

Agreed on the team. Buckley has huge potential and doesn’t lack for anything from what I’ve seen.

GAA analysis on the RTÉ highlights show is very limited. We are lucky in the modern age to have access to GAA podcasts. I, for one, crave some supplementary GAA chat and analysis. I am sure others are the same. GAA podcasts are not for everyone but there's about 5 or 6 podcasts going around and one of them might tickle one's fancy.

And on your first point, Ben O' Connor did take notice of Joanne Cantwell's comments 3 weeks ago. But for the most part, what is discussed on TV or podcasts are outside noise to intercounty squads.

Very good post.

The 2 podcasts that particularly appeal to me are :-

Off the Ball :- Presenter- Will O Callaghan Ex IC Hurlers - James Skehill, Paul Murphy

Indo GAA :- Presenter - Michael Verney Ex IC Hurlers - John Mullane, Pat Ryan (Limerick)

It's like listening to chats between 3 friends, each with a passion for hurling, who give a great insight into current hurling topics.

I met Mullane back in the day and he's a great lad to have a chat with. Comes across really well. I'm not too keen on Verney but he's growing on me. The other 5 are very interesting and don't seem to have any agenda other than to give their honest opinions.

I'd recommend any hurling lover to give these 2 a try - especially during the c/ship

I listen to both a fair amount. I’d say Mullane is the best of all of them. If Verney says “manna from heaven” one more time I might have to stop listening.

Rather than what he said to the media I was really impressed with Connollys involvement in general play in KK on Sunday. Playing further from goal and getting stuck in constantly. Definitely a different role this season and I’m enjoying it.
I think he has really grown into a leadership role in the forwards this year, maybe with Hoggy gone he has stepped it up and going on the free’s helps aswell.

Still only the league I know but like you said he’s a lot more active in games, in previous years I felt he drifted in and out of games.

On the podcasts I think it’s notable this year that Landers and indeed Daly have received a fair bit of flak for hyping up Cork last year. By the sounds of it they are a bit stung by it. I only listen to it occasionally (long car journeys) and as referred to above, the Hurling Pod and Indo GAA are superior.

Still think he should be scoring more from play ( nothing against KK). As for his feeble penalty - he’s a bit of an enigma as a player but hopefully Ben can get the best out of him.
