Cork Hurlers - Part 2

The one thing I don’t like is having Offaly as our last game. No disrespect to Offaly but it’s important to get some good tests before championship kicks in and getting players sharp and game ready, it’s so close to championship I don’t think it’s a game where you can be trying things out as some are suggesting.
It didn’t do Limerick any harm in 2022, when they hadn’t won a league game until their final match against Offally and subsequently went onto win the AI. By the Offaly game, we *might* have already qualified for the league final by then. We need to continue what Ben is doing, pick strong teams but continue to blood fresh and fringe players to give them every chance to play themselves on or off the panel and starting 15 come Championship.

Cork did 5 days warm weather in Algarve last March (mainly funded by local business)

AFAIK this will be repeated b4 KK game. Weather is settled Sat there.

Perfect for a new management team looking to iron out the residual issues in defence & attack plus integrate newbies and positional changes.

No rocket science and all well analysed here already.

We'll be going for it in Nowlan Park as a win there will probably secure a league final and provide a fairly competitive game, 2 weeks B4 the big one. Very useful to give the starting 15 a final run out. Full dress rehearsal, as it were.

We could have done without Liam Gordons Red hat trick but everything else seems to be progressing ok

Last thing we need is a League final v Lk.
I think.

I was talking to someone involved in the fitness side of the Cork set up and he said the fitness training is a big step up from what was happening last year which he believes was needed but he is now worried that it might be getting too much and it should be turned down a small notch

Interesting, hopefully if it's fairly intense it won't get to the point where a few players start picking up injuries together in a short period of time. I'm no expert but I assume there's a point where the body just gives in if pushed too far

Interesting suggestion by Fergal Horgan in today's examiner that the gaa should introduce a black card for incidents like Saturday evening. If Barrett & Forde could be given a black instead of red he thinks it would work.
Also he's critical of the assessor role, Brian Gavin had similar comments. The assessor definitely seems to be an issue for the refs
The dishing out of the black card needs a tweak. Not on the melee but in generals. What’s wrong with giving the offender a black card, sending the player to the sideline on the 45. Let the penalty be taken, if a goal (not a point) is scored from the penalty, the offender returns immediately.
If the penalty is missed, the offender has ten mins in the bin. Simples.
Listen to Ben, stop copying soccer. Take their lead, yes but we should make the rules/punishments fit our game. Penalty shootouts will be in the firing line next no doubt.
