Cork Hurlers - Part 2

Joanne is a dick, this is how they make their money,by creating a story to suit their narrative.
The Hurley to the head debate, I think Ben is saying at 100miles an hour a slight mistime can catch a stray hurl to the head vs a malicious blow. That was my interpretation, that said I’d prefer if he talked a little less in the media. Don’t feed them.
He makes valid points and the time clock for a free is the most obvious one.
I’m enjoying his approach to games, I think we have two for nearly every role.
The likes of Eoin Roche and Ger Mel are lads who have not taken a backward step, liking the fact that dropping Rob a little deeper has made the defense as a whole look more secure and less 1v1. Finding options and systems.. Going short at times is still hand on heart moments but again this is to keep the other team honest as much as anything. We didn’t do enough of that in the past.
This management strike me as a team who would change personnel on teams every week, winning or losing, 2 or 3 changes to fit that specific game.
At this moment DOL,TOC,WB look like guys who will be starting come championship, early doors but serious options..

Someone joked that Barrett should change his helmet. For a clean, skillful, talented player, he gets his share of sending off… Against Clare last year, and yesterday.
Just wondering what length of a suspension Barrett is looking at given it's his second straight red within a year (if not successfully appealed)

It’s great to see Mark Coleman back to his best . He has been dogged by injury and slow comebacks from those injuries but he has showed in these 3 games what he can offer . Fingers crossed if he does stay knock free that him , Fitz and Hayes can become the spine of this Cork team

And Hayes is still rusty. Can you imagine him in full flow? Frightening

Brilliant analysis of the match by the Sunday game
It’s getting worse all lovely Joanne had them discuss was about what Ben said
2 top class hurlers and the one with the voice that’d break glass in the middle of them
God almighty

I will most definitely hold my hand up. I didn’t think Dáire O’Leary would be good enough. I genuinely must say that last night he was miles better. So much improved. Eoin Downey is definitely more comfortable at wing back too. Ben definitely likes Fitzy in the half forward line and he was the outstanding player on the pitch last night. And to everyone - trust me when I say I’ve been obsessed with Cork hurling since I could walk, but I still call out things when I feel it’s needed. Would people agree or disagree that like Clare in the final two years ago (after 18 minutes or so when Cork were 7 up) & Tipp (obviously particularly in the second half when Cork started 6 up) both got a grip. Basically Clare & Tipp clearly raised their intensity, work rate & tackling. It is the only way to upset Cork. Closing down the space. Just like the final in 06 against Kilkenny. But I am actually hopeful that under Ben Cork are warned. Everyone on the street knows the Cork panel is outstanding. We have the hurlers, the skill, the pace etc. But from what I’ve witnessed so far, we most definitely seem tougher. I’d say the first game against Tipp in Thurles in April will be a cracker with both teams going full throttle. Cork sort of had to win last night but it didn’t really bother Tipp. There was something inevitable about it - but still glad to win it!
I don't know about this narrative that Cork are tougher now under BOC. How much tougher could they be the last few years taking on Limerick? I mean they were plenty tough under Ryan. Mentally they were not tough in the final but that's not what people seem to be referencing.

RTE are trying to create a story and their own narrative, you never see TG4 doing it. I too enjoy Bens interviews and his curt attitude but I fear it’s going to bite us in the ass later in championship. RTE will try build us up as bully boys and I fear dirty hits on our players will go unpunished.
We had the consummate gentleman in charge in Pat Ryan and they still hated us.

I’m not talking about what people think about Cork or hating us, it shouldn’t matter it a shit to us.

I’m talking more about the “playing on the edge” narrative that’s building up around him and Cork, and it costing us frees and cards in big moments.
They said the same shit last year. Once Pat Ryan got the team playing more physical they went on about Cork being reckless. From where I stand we are done no favors no matter how nice we are.

We had 2 sent off in a round robin game against Waterford a few years ago in Walsh Park. Cahalane and Joyce saw the line. We’ll get the referee attention anyway, regardless of what Ben says. I would think a lot of managers and players agree with him. Kilkenny and Limerick have been playing on the edge for years.
And Clare have been diving over it.
