Cork Hurlers - Part 2

That’s probably the expectation for a lot of the neutrals/pundits aswell - Cork have kicked on from last year and while 2-3 of the Tipp backs could win their battle, it’s probably not going to be possible to tame all players from 8-15 and all carry a goal threat.

Corks biggest obstacle is just the long wait and expectation placed on them - within and outside their camp.
This reminds me of the Barrs team that won the county 3 years ago, fellas were on here laughing at us clinging on to tradition, saying we’d never win one again, tradition can stifle you or release you to do great things, hopefully Sunday will be like that torrential glorious day in the Pairc 3 years ago. Our time has come

Be Brave! Believe!

Honestly now, it’s an AI final, are you sure Tipp won’t just roll over and let us tickle their tummies?

This place is the PeoplesRepublicoffuckingCliches in the lead in to matches
He’s like a fucking cliche machine churning out absolute bollix, ‘a tough game’ all he’s short is saying it’s all on the day
Be brave with your use of clichés.
Believe in clichés.

At the end of the day hurling is a simple game.

15 versus 15 and Red & Blue talking bollocks.

It's all about tradition, holding the danger men and closing down the space.
Tipp will flood the middle and drop a player in front of their defence. They will then hope as per normal that the rules go out the window in a final and they will pull and drag at our fowards all day long. And they will need goals which they are well capable of getting

They will want a battle while we will want an open free flowing game. Who dictates the style will go a long way to deciding the winners

Isn’t that exactly what’s being said on here?
It’s the most obvious statement that ever was! It’s an AI final, for any IC player it’s the pinnacle of your career, so the idea that you’d go out there and not give it everything is just silly. Tipp will come with fire in their bellies, believing they can beat us, and ready for the battle. They will be gutted if they don’t win and will fight to the end.. Fine, we know that, it goes without saying because that’s the minimum expected of any team.

The question for Sunday is what we need to do, PR has the measure of this stuff and will have our squad fired up and 100% focused on the game in hand and what is required, do people not listen to anything he says in interviews? Did nobody watch the MF or the SF?

So yes, we are going to have to go out there and hurl the lights out to get this done, but there’s the tactics side of things also and over to Pat to get that right. He took care of it in the league final and in the MC but against 14. He has seen all he needs to see in Tipps MC and last weekends game to know exactly where they are at, and where their danger and weaknesses lie. For me they are an easy enough team to read and let them set up for us, chances are we saw the blueprint vs Limerick in round one of Munster. If they play a 3rd midfielder or sweeper they give up an attacking position which limits their chances of goals which they will need - not that simple for them. If they focus on taking Hayes out they give up other areas of defense that we will run at and punish, or simply pick them off from distance.

My turn for a cliche - no match was won on paper, but we have the squad and experience on board to go and bring Liam back to Leeside now

Rebels Abu, Sunday can’t come quick enough 🇵🇱🇵🇱

Spot on. We have 2 ways of playing and we have the players to play both systems

Tipp will try close down the space in their backline just like Clare did in last years final because if they don’t the goals will flow otherwise

But to do that they will play into our hands with Dalton dropping deep and cleaning up on long range scores. In this case we will have to be clever in our use of the ball from the half backline midfield area

It will be a game of stick or twist all day long. Can Tipp sustaine that manic workrate for 70 minutes? That is the question that remains unanswered

I can’t understand the cockiness of fellas on here, have they ever played a game of hurling in their life?

I an expecting a huge battle on Sunday. This will have to be earned as Tipp won’t be handing it to us easily

I’ve been a big backer of Pat Ryan long before he got the Senior job. His u20s played a lovely brand of hurling mixed with physicality and a manic workrate

after last year and especially Limerick in the Gaelic Grounds I felt we were very close and seemed to be bringing through those hungry u20s.

But this year has been an unmitigated disaster so far. We have to see a performance on Saturday and we have to get a win. One of them will not do, although we’d all take a 0.01 to 0,00 win here and now

Good post Northy

Our half foward line are key to opening Limerick up. I still believe our best half foward line has Deccie and Seamie on the wings. Both can win high ball or break it if needed, both can also push out on our puckouts looking for a pass if the defender doesn’t follow them. Then they can score or pass inside to the full foward line

You need someone on Hayes who will keep him busy, Dalton can do that but for me he’s needed at 10, Fitzy got his hole handed to him on Sunday and disappeared out of the game, just as he has a habit of doing midfield. I’d stick with him at 11

I said this before Sunday, Niall O Leary should have man marked Lynch, Downey should have held the center and the rest would have to have a manic workrate for 70 minutes. Then you have a chance to beat them

I’d be looking at Shane Barrett in a 3 man full foward line. However I would also explore in game v Limerick how a 2 man full foward line would work with Shane dropping out to 11 on Hayes

15 on 15 is the way to go but your right, we need a plan B based on what we are both suggesting

Waterford are next in line in a game we have to win but I’m with you on also looking ahead to taking on Limerick again

I believe in this group, they proved two years ago they can go toe to toe with Limerick, last year they beat them twice when it mattered.

In the bigger scheme of things last Sunday will mean nothing if we win next weekend but the Munster Final will then be crucial. We would have to lay down a marker that those geeen feckers won’t do that to us again. Not necessarily win, but show them we are not gone away and will see them again in Croke Park

Our lads are brilliant hurlers but there’s an inconsistency in them that has to be eradicated if we are to climb the steps of the Hogan this year

And I still believe we can

Be Brave! Believe!

Dalton will thrive in the pressure, he and whoever is on the other wing will have a huge role to play, we have to close down their half back line so they don’t play through the lines so easily. If we do that and match their manic workrate all over the pitch we will have a chance as the supply to their danger men will be curtailed.

But I am very impressed by Clare, they have 6 fowards who can all do damage and they seem to have a great understanding of each others play. Their movement and their ability to expose opposition defenders in uncomfortable positions is a concern.

As is the fact we still have so many question marks over our team, our team work and inter play and understanding of each other is not yet at the level of Clare, but these guys have balls, they won’t go down without a fight
