only see three songs from red ash but enjoyed what i saw, i will see them again hopefully... great to see to PIL. done about an hour and a half...himself seemed in good form ,pretending to be slugging back the whiskey , brash and bold as ever, this is not a love song and Rise the highlights for me ..cyprus avenue is an amazing venue., so intimate with great sound.
Didn't see the support - got in just before PiL walked on.
"I suppose you're all the people who didn't get Oasis tickets" and they were off.
Lydon was in great form - snot and spit flying, gargling with brandy, dropped the keks and held his voice for the most part. My buddy said to me "He still has it and seems up for it in fairness."
Mercifully Johnny didn't start a polemic rant at any point. The band that are back him are great too and the sound in Cyprus Avenue was spot on.
Don't think that I have ever seen a band leave the stage for a breather that wasn't an encore break (or maybe it was?) before. Lydon's voice recovered after the smoke break and they brought the show home really well.
Lydon was correct about one thing - it was fucking roasting in the venue, an absolute sweatbox.
"Death Disco", "Public Image", "Poptones" and "Rise" all belters. Oh and "This Is Not A Love Song".
"Shoom" - I fucking hate it and used it as my loo-break.
The men's toilet, as usual, is the big downer about C.A. when it's sold out. Having to get from a vantage point on the other side of the room, across a packed floor, then along the side wall where people have congregated and then do it in reverse is a fucking pain.
Luckily the venue was full of middle to late-aged men so they all knew the score as I
"Sorry. Sorry. Just get past you there. Yep. The jacks. Yep. Sorry." waded my way through them.
