Cork Footballers

Great to see we are finally starting a campaign with a (nearly) full squad available. How many years have we been heading into a season with 10 injuries recently. Fingers crossed our S&C work prevails in this regard for the season.

O Callaghan looks to be a different animal this year. If he can add that scoring element to his game he will be a worry to defenders.

Good to see BOD, DOM, Meehan and Corbett get their feet under them again after extensive periods out.

Great to get the win. Kerry were under strength and a long way off full fitness, but a lot of positives to take from the game. A lot of strong runners in the middle third powter, o driscoll, o Callaghan and maguire. Will cause a lot of problems for division 2 teams. Offer so much more than o rourke and Dan dineen. Rebels abú

!! O Rourke is a starter on this team come championship I’d expect.. he fits perfectly into the game plan they played with tonight and adds scores. McSweeney was quiet.
Overall, Job done tonight. Good team performance and 7/8 at least that will be very happy individually also. Kerry were shocking though- hungover.
Martins kickouts good. Full back line and half back line very solid with nearly all of Kerry’s shots outside the scoring D. In contrast Corks shots were the opposite. Matty Taylor showing again why is a top wing back- love watching him.
Midfield wiped out Kerry and the 2 lads really seem to be gelling into one of those top midfield partnerships.
4 of the 6 forwards played really well. Jones will be delighted. Hope O Driscoll can keep that incredible Re-debut going.
Delighted to see Deane back - the man that took it to Kerry more than anyone else for 4/5 years.
Our hoped messiah Corbett was expectedly quiet on a 1st night out but his movement was really important in how the full forward line worked so well.
Top marks to John Cleary and co for a job well done.

Very glad to see the win for the Cork team and management and supporters (which doesn't include me in this instance as I wasn't there). We know Kerry were in a bad state in the first week of Jan, and likely don't care much about winning the McGrath. For us, 'twas a match and we got the job done, and fair dues. Lets not make more or less of it than it is, or more or less than any player's performance than it is. We have a big squad, and (I presume) today being part of a plan to spread the opportunities, and get a lot used to the systems, 'cos there are a lot of matches in a short condensed season and fellows will have to step in and fill roles. Perceptions will vary over the next few months. Thanks for the news from the people who attended. Steady as she goes.

Wouldn't read much into but hopefully a sign the team are on track with conditioning and are set to hit the league in good shape.

It's good to see players who've fallen out of the set up in their early 20's be given a chance to come back in after showing form at club level to merit it. A nice bit of growing up happens in your mid 20's. Sometimes forgotten that both Paudie Kissane and John Miskella, main stays of the 2010 team, only returned to the panel in their late 20s after not making it in earlier years. We throw far too many players onto the scrap heap in this County.

Print it off, keep it for future generations

Crisis in Kerry football!;)

Corbertt was a joy to watch last night his ball control and foot passing was outstanding but he is not a corner forward, full forward or half forward maybe. O Mahony was good at full back ,good crowd there as well.

Agreed. Thought Corbett did very well albeit without scoring. Wouldn't say anyone damaged their reputations last night.
Really looked like they knew what they were doing from restarts, defensively, pressing up and going forward with possession (all credit to Walsh??).

Bottom line is that this was a 3rd/4th choice, heavy legged Kerry team, but Cork absolutely had to put down a marker against them to get some momentum early in the season. A narrow victory just wouldn't cut it. They're off now and their tails are up, and they'll be opportunities to look at more players next week.
