Cork Footballers

They’re not perfect no but disband development squads ? Every county has development squads , current minor team has players that wouldn’t have a hope of being there except they’re were picked up as part of the process and put into an environment where they were able to compete against players from Premier 1 teams and allow to develop their obvious ability sufficiently to feel confident to make the grade … disband them and you fall further behind …
You’ve ignored the 2nd half of my sentence entirely… anyone that thinks development squads are working needs to change meds

If we could get a mind change in Cork football like Limerick hurling has gone through over the last 8 to 10 years, before that Limerick wer always coming close but never getting over the line. There is only a few wet rushey hills between Cork and Kerry but Kerry look like a different breed when it comes to Football. We have the talent but....
East of those wet rushey hills there's a huge county, whose CCB couldn't care a jot about football. No college nurseries like The Sem in Killarney, The Green and Mounthawk in Tralee not forgetting Dingle and Listowel either. Male ex footballers get 'teaching' jobs in these colleges somehow and the conveyer belt starts to roll,
As for Limerick we know how their progress was given a helping hand by J.P, and if Cork football could somehow find a wealthy benefactor and a seperate football board it wouldn't take long to see progress.

Yesterday was a good example of where we stand in terms of skill and general football know how.
How many club hurlers were in that Kerry panel or reverse the question in Cork's case,
It's bound to make a difference despite what some pundits say.

Foley had a field day when he was on Corbett. Up the field on his own.
Same story 2 yrs ago in Killarney Tom O Sullivan who scored 3 pts was MOTM and he was marking Corbett . Connor Corbett looks the real deal his has a swagger to his play but he has probably less than 50% return on his kicking for score and his marker end up MOTM. When I read kelly on the examiner and listen to sporting analysis trumping him it buggers belief. He was a brilliant minor its now 7 years ago .He needs to have a very good club Championship for me to
have fairh in him. By all accounts he is going very well in training but match day is a different game

To be fair to Corbett he was very unlucky with his 2pt effort came back off the post was going over another day it goes over ...his pass to Buckley for his score was slick too ...it would be a huge thing for us if he takes off ....please god there is signs ....delighted too that Buckley got game time can score is such an honest hard working player ...

His shot was poor though it was lucky it hit the post tbh. Sherlock had one before and it barely lifted off the ground it was so poor

Was talking to two men today and they were on the terrace and they said Corbett first attempt was over . Sherlock had no conviction in his shooting at all . His best impact is coming on

You raise an interesting point, obviously a WC team would never happen but there’d certainly be an appetite for a intermediate/senior championship for the West Cork teams and we’d be happy to include the Gaeltacht region of mid cork as to be fair to them they are true football men also.

A west cork championship which could include those 4 Gaeltacht teams would truly be a box office event. 16 real football clubs battling it out in a knock out competition would be something special. No dross like Douglas and Michaels, just true football clubs where football means more.

Again unlikely to ever happen as it would undoubtedly overshadow the county

I was out by top of arc/ 45 on terrace and Corbetts was over
So that point not given and Cliffords 2 pointer shouldnt have stood due to breach. Despite our very poor 2nd half we werent too far off

Yes, and if the ball was advanced for the breach we'd have either kicked a point, or perhaps Sherlock would have taken it outside the arc and got two (not at all a given, but he's done it before this year against the wind). Then we're ahead with 5 mins to go and it's Kerry that's having to chase the game and take more risks at the back.

Kerry will be looking too at their performance - squandered a few goal chances, and gave us one that they shouldn't have.

Now, our lads won't be taking much notice of any of that and will be looking at what they could have done better. Onwards to Meath match now.
