Cork Footballers

It should be horses for courses. A good manager should be able to assess the opposition before the match or during it and know who should start and who should be introduced, including taking stock of what is happening during the match. Sherlock would be an ideal option to draw on if that was your starting point.
The question does arise about a player's commitment to training standards. In his Laochra Gael profile, Martin Furlong said Eugene Magee had him (35 yo) and the sub-goalie training as hard in 1982 as any outfield player, and it was as tough as Clare 1995. If a player is unwilling to commit training-wise as other players, they are better off at home. Whether Cleary has been too exacting of his charges on that front is another question.

Sherlock kind of reminds me of Masters from Nemo those years ago gifted club footballer could win games and counties on his own but lacks the pace for senior inter county
Not sure if it's pace that's lacking. I'd say it's that bit of 'devil' or agression inherent in top level players. He's still worth a shot though as the new rules protect lads like him IMHO.

Just heard Cleary is staying. So unless the players or ccb do otherwise it's more of the same to come.
Was always going to be thus. There is no other viable candidate outside of Haulie O'Neill and he doesn't fit the submissive personality profile required.

Given the apathy towards the team amongst Cork football clubs & supporters, the CCB know well they don't need to move Cleary on.

So why not stick with the nodding dog....a nice guy in the mould of Clownihan, Peadar the Plodder, etc, etc......why ever take the chance again on a maverick like Billy Morgan when you can go with a yes man who'll make your life easy.

18 points in a single game of football will rightly generate debate.

Some forwards on the panel might struggle to kick that in 3 games for their club.
Carbery in their league final Fri v Knocknagree couldn't score what Sherlock scored on his own .
