Claxton turns 44 in September. His kickouts against Derry last weekend were as good as ever but is his shotstopping going to be at the top level at that age? I hope the Cork forwards put that to the test on more than one occasion.

I saw Dublin v Cork 2 years ago (or was it 3 years ago) in a league game in Pairc Uí Rinn and Hurley damn near beat the Dubs on his own.

Yep and he could quickly catch fire with two pointers if given the chance Saturday.

I agree but I still wouldn't start o mahony think hes more of an impact coming in

I'd prob go with a combination of cronin Hurley and o mahony inside . Cronin has only been so so up to last sat . But a left legged free taker could be vital plus he was unlucky v Kerry in 2nd match . O mahony and Hurley are men that can break a tackle and that's vital

The rule about impeding after the KO catch has been changed to a regular free - i.e. a reward for impeding the ball winner. Awful decision. This year has seen some of the best fielding I have ever seen 'cos it was properly rewarded - one particular Roscommon fellow had some amazing catches in the second half (not that I wanted him to be doing that!). The rule needed a minor tweak, but the counter-revolutionaries were - as they always are - waiting in the long grass for a ref to make a few mistakes and then pounced - knowing that the general GAA public are easy prey for that kind of thing because in general people are all for change except for the changes they get, and remain against the changes they get until the benefits are emphatically proven (human nature).

It changes things for Saturday too. If our players get that free, we'd better elect to play on as immediately as possible and drive forward so that at least the opposing player has to get out of the way then or risk the 50m for impeding the free. And we have to be ready for the Dubs doing the same.

The big thing that Gavin and FRC wanted was more open contests for the football. That old rule was counter productive
So hopefully it’s just a bit of tidying up to prevent any repeat of guys contesting kickouts having 50m frees awarding against them

Once a player claims the kickout mark then the normal KO mark rules still apply. 4m etc.

That would be my preferred tweak, but that's not what was reported on RTE this morning.

If i was coaching a team that had a good midfield with the old rule i would ask the midfielders and tell them when they claim the ball run at the nearest opponent ,get the free and it will be brought up 50 metres. Kerry got 8 points at least against us that way,heard Derek o Mahoney has given 14 free for this already this year.
