That's professional sport.

You have a go and if you're lucky you can make a career out of it. They're not running a charity. You're either good enough for it or you're not.

Referring to Gaelic football as a native sport is quite funny when you consider the IRFU predates the GAA.

What I dont understand and never will is a mindset that somehow trying to pursue a career as a professional sportsperson is 'pricking around'.

It’s professional sport.. that’s exactly what happens.
Look at the soccer academies in England. Only a tiny % end up in the premier league.
