I think the defenders should be given benefit of the doubt on these steps call. A lot more is being asked of them since the enhancements were brought in as its now essentially a forwards game
None of these things play out if Clifford stays on the pitch IMO. Kerry were up 7 at that point and he was doing wreck. Being up a man is now a huge benefit because the team down a man must keep 3 up so there is an extra man in attack. Cork were able to work scoring chances so much easier in this period, hence more wides also being part of the stats.I'd pretty much agree with this.
But O Se's goal was huge and should not have stood.
We could easily have got another goal. We created more goal chances.
We didn't play for first 20 mins but were the better side thereafter IMO.
This side has shown huge character and no one will want to face us now.
We could be onto something here IMO
I noticed that too. I don't think it made any difference but I've never seen backs and forwards in an intercounty warmupClifford's challenge didn't look great in real time, and he was always going to struggle to make a decent challenge at the pace the Cork player was going.
I'm not that certain Kerry are up to much. Jack O'Connor appears to have taken a step back and Cian O'Neill is running the touchline which isn't necessarily a good thing. O'Neill is a big dick and wants everyone to know he is the man, and I could hear is voice in the warm up over the crazy songs they play pre match in PUC. And the Kerry warm up was like a mini match. Kerry were nearly out on their feet in that and they stumbled over the line in the end.
Spot on. A yellow may well have been given but wouldn't be the right call. When you say Clifford’s red card was harsh, he was off his feet and caught Taylor around the neck bringing him down, it’s a red, it’s not in the same ball park as Brady’s red which fits the definition for harsh, at most what can be said about Clifford is that some refs would have given yellow
Think McSweeney should be our 11 great kick passer and shooter then have powter for the last 20 just running and cleaning up as much ball as he canIt will be hard watching back for alot of reasons, huge opportunity slipped by for this panel and mgt. They more than us all know it....
Lots of positives for sure, as CORK1990 eluded to McDonnell & Sean Walsh acquitted themselves well under the red heat of championship.
More experience and big game time banked for Brady, Lordan & H O' Connor. Great to see Cathal O M back in championship also he will only improve as season goes on, probably not fully up to match pace yet. They all have roles to play in qualifiers.
BOD has been our most consistent performer for 2-3 seasons, keep this up and he would in my view be in the conversation for an all star later in the season.
Composure in front of goals and skills will need to be worked on for qualifiers. So many unforced turnovers at this level is unacceptable and were punished.
Also Tommy Walsh a big loss, hope its nothing serious, he has been through an awful time of it with injuries, and he is to me our most natural centre back,
Need to sort out positions #6 & #11, Maguire is not a defender in the meaning of the word and Powter is not a good enough distributor from foot to play at ic level at #11, it hinders our attack. Unfortunately I do not think he is a viable option in a half back line, with the new rules either under kick outs. Sean Walsh a real option to now start.
Finally mgt will need to come to the realization that what where our two most influential players in Hurley and Powter, may be be better served for the team now as impact players for the last 20 mins of the qualifiers and give youth its fling. If this is to be their last stand, go out with a bang and leave something there for the next man. When the game is chaotic that is where we seem to thrive.
