Cork Footballers

so we're 5th in table on 6 pts. Cavan, meath on 8. Louth , down on 4, down have head to head on us, and Sam place, thats crucial..

next week, Meath V louth, Meath "could" make final as have to head V Rossies but they'll beat Wmeath handy. Monahgan will bate down and then 2nd and 3rd tied on points and Meath can go to final.

Monaghan beat down i reckon so bottom half is Cork., Down, Louth, Wmeath.

Down have a Sam place so that puts us down 1 place in Tailteann rankings, ie 6th in Div2 table. if we look at it that weay. If Louth get to leinster final we're 7th tin div 2 table in Tailteann rankings.... and then Clare make munster final and they'll get a place...... so we lose out thta way possibly.

Or we beat Curry
Imagine curry get relegated

Just from the outside looking in, would Cork failing to qualify for the Sam Maguire possibly be for the best in the long run?

Hear me out before ye call me a hurling snob.

We haven't a hope of even coming close to winning the All Ireland this year and will probably ship a heavy beating or two as we exit the competition.

We have a realistic chance of winning the Tailteann cup. A winning run may be the shot of confidence Cork football needs. Win the Tailteann cup and we are guaranteed Sam Maguire cup football next year meaning next years league can be further used to blood new guys and implement a new style of attacking/kicking football free from the pressure of must win league games.

Failure to qualify for the Sam Maguire will put further pressure/spotlight on the county board to "fix" Cork football.
The 5 year plan has been an absolute fiasco, it's actually embarrassing reading back on it and seeing how much of a failure it's been.

It is fucking ridiculous that we can stay up in division 2, lose to Kerry, and be in the Tailteann whereas Clare cam fail to get promoted from Division 3, and simply beat Waterford or Limerick to get into the Sam Maguire.
I wonder should they bring a seeding system in based on league positions. #1 Kerry and #2 Cork in opposite semis. Then #6 Waterford play #3 Clare in quarters etc. Surely easily done in all provinces.

I think you need to be very careful about this type of thinking, when cork got relegated to division 2 8 years ago people said roughly the same thing and again when they were relegated to division 3……what obvious now is that both relegations were disastrous, I also think in fairness to cleary he has put some effort into corn football as a player, u21 manager, club manager and senior manager to have this as a legacy and I hope to stay in division 2 and the Sam Maguire.
Loads of teams have shown that you can develop in division 2 Armagh being a case in point. Also this Sam Maguire is the most open in 30-40 years with basically every divisions 1 team feeling they can win it and a number of teams in our division also.
While I don’t think cork will get a run, there is huge possibility in this championship for a positive run, a competitive quarter final exit would be a better outcome to any tailteann cup experience
