Cork Footballers

Lads soccer teams travel all over the county to play teams in their division and it’s not localised.

You just get on with it.

We live in cork it’s a big county we are blessed to have some many teams it’s gives young players loads of opportunities to play different teams week in week out.
Personally i’ve no problem with teams travelling all over the county, i did it myself

but that’s a bit of an unfair comparison, Obviously for soccer, rugby etc you will have to travel further distances when there’s little clubs compared to the GAA

Absolutely there is less but clubs but the approach is better it’s taken county wide so there is more levels thus you get more competitive games.

The travel is worth it!!!

Top table , board and even clubs don't really care

Five years ago, and with Cork again dicing with relegation from Division 2, then Kildorrery club delegate Tony McCarthy took the microphone at the February county board meeting and let fly. McCarthy’s ire stemmed from the 2-12 to 1-9 home defeat to Meath the weekend previous.

“This board has to have a serious discussion about where we are going with football. What I watched last Saturday [against Meath] was absolutely disgraceful. We are in serious trouble with football in this county,” McCarthy stated.

It’s all true of course but I think after 3 and half years it’s hard to be anything g but apathetic and considering the use of dummy teams, failure to even announce a squad etc the group itself aren’t great to build any sort of interest
It’s also interesting that back with McCarthy there was huge criticism from clubs at times in particular from certain regions, that seems to have evaporated for some strange unknown mysterious reason

🤔
Cork football has been shite for over 10 years now. It started with the crap managers appointed after CC. There seems to a lack of the will to take the necessary decisions to put Cork back at the top table. I'm sure that with the size of the county the players are there.
Cork Hurling was in a bad way for some time but little by little it improved and today they are one of the favourites for the AI. Meanwhile, Cork football lurches towards a football abyss ie.Tailtean Cup.

Good post. Although, I’m one of the many that think the downfall started once Billy was gone. It’s fair to argue that the 2010 side could have won more with the talent they had, prob the best group for 5 years, and should have won more but CC didn’t deliver, just like the recent 5 year plan.
I think we should be top 5.
Comparing the footballers fortunes directly with hurling isn’t right. With the emergence of the north in the last 35 years, Football is now a true national almost 32 county sport, with nearly 10 teams realistically hoping for Sam. Hurling played in pockets has 10 teams in total with only about half of them in AI contention. We might not realize it her in Cork city and county but hurling isn’t played much at all in half the country.
