Cork Footballers

Conor Cahalane played no part in the group stages of last year's PSFC . He came on in their SF win v St Finbarr's. And also came on at ht in the final for his injured brother Damien.
So I continue with my " it stinks" theory. Or after my travels yesterday, the general consensus is its laughable.
Surely he's just taking his brothers place or whatever not upto standard player who took Jack's place when he opted for the hurlers.

Nemo had 6 in 2004 including the complete full back line.
Billy took over in 2003 or 2004 - I can't remember which.
Nemo won Cork Seniors 3 times in a row and 4 times in a row in the noughties.

So they had 6 in 2004, 3 in 2005 and 2006, and 1 in 2007.

In that context, I think the implication that Billy was favoring Nemo players, at least for the starting team, for the majority of his tenure is substantially inaccurate. Now, to be fair, I think I read somewhere that he said himself that initially in his 00s tenure he attached too much weight to whether or not a player was playing in the Senior club championship.

Not only that, Nemo had been in all Ireland club finals for three consecutive years 2001 - 2003!

To be fair to Billy that was the common conception and way of thinking. You had to play at the top level. You even had fellas like Owen O Mahony from a struggling Clon seniors moving to Nemo hoping to get on the Cork team..

I think we like to think that we have moved on from those days but when i think of it, how many players on our squad play junior football, 2 or 3 at most ?

I’m not sure what you mean… I can’t think of a single player who isn’t player senior championship with either club, college or division. In reality there is very few players at junior level who will get the development required to get them to the top.. Club is where it’s at..
I’d a fascinating chat with some guys involved with underage over Christmas and they said that a boy from a senior club training 13 times a month was fighting with a boy from a junior club training 3 times a month were competing for corner forward on the cork minor team…

Ya, that’s what i mean i’m not disagreeing with you, i’m just trying to say that in general Billy morgan gets a bit of stick from people that he prioritised players from the best clubs in cork, and people think that dosent really happen anymore, but sure look at our squad today, very few players from small clubs????
