I think the goalie has to be in small sq in that case. They certainly thought of a lot of the ways around things...Can the full back take the kick out with the goalie at midfield

I see what you’re saying and I’m sure we will see a lot of trial and error when it comes to ways to exploit each tactical tweak. I think it still condenses the pitch to have players drop to the 45, cuts off passing lanes etc to a point. What I couldn't understand from the trial games was why teams didn't try to keep at least one forward nearly inside on top of the small rectangle when the opposition goalie had come out. They all seemed to ask their forwards to drop back close to the half way line, which seems totally pointless. It's a fantastic chance to add jeopardy. A quick turn over or misplaced pass, and long ball forward and it's nearly a probability of a goal. Even in the current rule set, I wondered why nobody ever tried it. It would have taken some of the casual nature out of the sideways foot passing if there was an opposition forward 30 yards behind you, even if you're down a man in defence.
It’s going to be 6/7 up at either end. With a 7 a side teams in the middle..I see what you’re saying and I’m sure we will see a lot of trial and error when it comes to ways to exploit each tactical tweak. In turn it opens up huge space in front of the goal to boot the ball into and means defenders have further to run back to hop into goal if they mark their man out to the 45. It’ll be a very interesting league ahead and once tweaks are made I’m sure it’ll be for the betterment for the game.
i agree, i feel like all this will completely ruin the position. The guy that is an exceptional goalie now but maybe not as agile out the field will be completely extinct and will be replaced by an athlete even tho the former is a better “goalkeeper”Should change the rule that goalie can’t go past his own 45
Mostly true I think. A few might come out to contest opposition kick out.Under the new rules, goalkeepers (I think) won't stray much beyond their 20 metre line. It will be simply too risky, with 3 opposition forwards inside the 65, at all times.
Currently, a goalkeeper can appear at midfield (and beyond) only because there are no opposition players between him and their own goal. By and large anyway.
Also, the fact that goalkeepers cannot now (effectively) play any part in the game, if they are outside the large square & inside their own 65, will change to goalkeeping scene to what it was before the possession game took over.
Which will suit Cork.
My tuppence worth.
Don’t agree with this. I understand some people are old school and like the keeper to stay in goal but some of the most exciting moments in the last few years have come from the keepers drifting up the pitch.Should change the rule that goalie can’t go past his own 45
I completely agree that the development in recent years of the goalie coming out and taking a greater part in general play has been a very good development. As well as the advantages you mention, it has also led to the goalie position in club underage being a more attractive position than it had been previously.Don’t agree with this. It has either led to the keeper scoring which is always a good moment for the crowd or he gets caught out and there’s a goal scored while he’s on his travels. Either way it’s been very exciting.
What this new rule does is prevents the use of the keeper defensively and in a negative sense but entices him to come up the pitch and be an extra man. So we are likely to see more of the moments like those I’ve mentioned as a result and I think they’re good for the entertainment of the sport.
